Chip Usher or Doc Griffin ???

If you had the option of Chip or Doc building you a set of Miuras, who would you go with and why?

I don't know Doc, but I have been sending clubs to Chip for about 8 years for repair, re-shaft, etc. I am in Boston and he is in Georgia, but he always does great reasonably priced work, and I trust him.

I'm in Boston too & I've had Chip do work for me, on many occasions. Great guy!

Never had him fit me up for clubs but "Doc" is good people. I'm quite sure he will treat you right and he does good work.

I'm in NC ... Doc is in South Carolina (Columbia) and Chip is in Georgia (Savannah). Both have great reputations as master builders and are within a drive from me.

Both intrigue me, I guess I'm curious to know, who has the shop, who can enable me to hit the product I want to build beforeheand? Who has the technologoy?

If you're in that area, why would you not use Dana Upshaw ???

Macon, GA is a long drive from anywhere in North Carolina. And from eastern NC (say, Raleigh) to Macon is about the same distance as Washington, DC. Last I heard, Upshaw was south of Macon.

I don't know, but by most all accounts, he's the best fitter in the USA. & before someone suggests it, Dana would be the first to claim there are many great club fitters out there. Dana isn't a self-promoter, but always seems to be the one who's quoted in GD & most everywhere else when it comes to fitting.

I've used Chip for the past 8 years and I'll simply say this:

First and foremost he's a gentleman. Exactly what you'd expect from a Savannah, GA. native and UGA graduate. He's a professional in every since of the word. A pleasure to do business with and I trust him unequivocally.

Secondly, his knowledge and skill of clubmaking is as good as anyone in the business.

He's a benefactor of junior golf.

And I really just "like" the guy.

I live in Savannah and have known of/heard of Chip for the past year or so. Unfortunately I never contacted him until recently.

I walked in to his shop and told him I was in the market for a new driver shaft. Greeted with a smile and a handshake. Discussed specifics and agreed on a time to get fitted.

Fitting was easy, Chip was open and honest. Discussed price options, etc. No pressure on purchasing anything. Made a decision and had a new shaft shortly after.

I will be using Chip in the future. Customer service and experience were top-notch. Wish I would have went to him sooner.

I wish I had asked this question before utilizing a couple of builders in Michigan and Texas who proved not to be trustworthy gentleman. I ended up regretting both experiences.
