Apparently Apple's initial US supply (buying directly from Apple) sold out in less than an hour!

Apple UKs pre-order stock are gone too, quoting 3 weeks now, despite the hefty £699 ($1,140) cost for the 64gb variant.

Well it said that it should be delivered on Friday when I upgraded but then the email later said that they could be on back order. Now the waiting game begins.

Bummer. If they are backordered, there are a LOT of people who ordered from AT&T and were initially told 9/21 who are going to be really ticked off.

I'm gonna wait a month or so to order mine I've decided. Wait for the initial rush to die down. Also gives me a chance to see what new and interesting bugs pop up before ordering.

Anyone know if Verizon is now requiring individuals to move over to a limited plan? I was grandfathered in with unlimited. Worries thy may make me switch.

Yes. If you upgrade to a subsidized phone on Verizon, you have to move to the "Share Everything" plan:

Only option if you want to keep unlimited data is to buy an unlocked iPhone 5 when it comes out (~$650 +) or go with Sprint.

AT&T let's you keep your grandfathered unlimited plan . . . for now.

they let you keep it but some features of the phone won't work. I heard that if you don't get a new plan that facetime over 3g won't work or something. hopefully this isn't true.

either way it doesn't bother me since I'm verizon and getting a windows phone 8 when they come out in october. screw apple and their overpriced crap

got the original iPhone when it came out, then the 3GS on launch day. Got the iPhone 4 a day before launch day. I held off from the 4S because the upgrades were not enough. Pre-ordered the IPhone 5 on Friday at 7am CST through apple.com 16GB and have a delivery date of October 5th. I would love to have it on launch day but I'll wait it out. I dont want to stand in lines at AT&T and the closest apple store in 3hrs away.

Marketing, sheeple like iPhones because they're pretty and everyone has one. Apple products (beside iPods, and computers (for pro audio only)) are waaaaaay behind everything else. WOW they made the screen .5 inches bigger REVOLUTIONARY! WOW the A6 chip REVOLUTIONARY! It's still the same watered down, lame OS with over priced accessories.

I'm an idiot when it comes to the latest in computers and whatnot, but I do know that my iPhone 3 still does everything I want, is compatible with everything, and there's a ton of apps for it. Also had two buddies who hate having what everyone else does so they had Androids or something similar. They both have iPhones now. Maybe other phones do cool things I don't know about but I do know with tech it isn't always a bad idea to follow the masses. Otherwise you might have an HD DVD player right now.

At my store its absolutely true, we were paid $20 per smart phone and $5 for every iPhone. There was zero incentive to sell them other than on a new line to reach our target new goal. iPhones are not bad phones, theres just so many better phones in the $199 price point.

This has been the age old argument for the past 4 or so years, yet, the iPhone still does extremely well. While I understand other phones do more and have better technology, the Apple products are just seem to be so much easier to use. My wife has a Galaxy S when it was supposed to be better than the iPhone... I think I was still rocking a iPhone 3 at the time.. the iPhone was so much better than the Samsung. The Galaxy was sweet for about 2 months then it became one of the worst phones I have ever seen. She had it replaced 3 separate times and when she finally gave up, she moved over to my plan and got a iPhone. She hasn't complained about her phone once since. We both have the 4S now.

Maybe she got a lemon, idk, but Apple products, specifically the iPhone just seem to be significantly easier to use for us. If you are trying to do some more techy stuff, then no doubt the iPhone probably isn't for you. But if you only use a limited amount of apps, the phone, messaging, music... the iPhone is the way to go

I heard on Fox News the other day that the iPhone 5 alone will raise the GDP by 0.5%. I know that doesn't seem like a lot, but ONE phone does that which is remarkable to me.

I believe the 4s raised it by 0.5%... this is selling significantly faster, I bet it's closer to a full percent. I read a week or so before the release a prediction that the iPhone 5 would raise the GDP by nearly 2% which would resemble a short turn economic turn around propelling Obama to re-election. Obviously the article was from CNN (about as credible as Fox News)....
