Persimmon drivers with really nice grain pattern ?

Dave Wood did such a great job. Yes, it has a nice carbon spot on the crown near the toe as well..

This is the LH WB Texan you found and I acquired.

 

We sent it, along with the LH MacGregor M09 copy, to Dave Wood for "restoration" over 5 years ago.

 

 

 

This will be one of the last times we post this photo of these two...

 

The "DW" is signed on each of the necks.

An unhit, Power Bilt Citation custom built driver, for a well known golf industry sales executive Henry Lange - probably worked for Power Bilt at the time. There's a matching 5-wood.

Toney Penna TP80 Oil Hardened deep faced beauty. Lots of carbon spots and grain out of the toe and a sweet semi-swan neck hosel. Looks like it was made for a good player.

Have shown photos of a LH TP 65 Hand Made Custom, along with a few other RH TP models.

Just who did Toney Penna make this blonde custom club for?

The TP80 came from a Caifornia collector who also sold me an unusual oil hardened MacGregor Ben Hogan that has:

 

- Small oil hardened stamp appears to be late 40s.

 

- Deep, full face, 5 screw fiber insert.

 

- Ben Hogan signature but no shamrock M on crown.

 

But - Swept back sole plate looks like retail version- MacGregor with no Tourney,

 

Looks like a Tourney except for sole plate which looks original.

 

Dave Wood thought it might be custom or a military club. I have Custom MacGregor drivers from the Toney Penna designing era with no Tourney on sole plates, so a Custom club makes some sense.

 

Traveling and don't have club or pics currently.

 

Both clubs may have come from a pro-?

I don't have any "classic" persimmons, but I have several Louisville Golf drivers and 2,3 & 4 woods. Also a set of 1,3 & 4 Joe Powell PT1W & 1,2,3 & 4 custom made Joe Powell woods. The custom Joe Powells are fitted with Aerotech SS65 shafts. I had them made when I had tendonitis problems and felt the shafts would help reduce the pain. They did, considerably. However, the tendonitis has improved, so I rarely use them these days - I prefer steel shafts.

Anyway, here's the driver I regularly use - a Louisville Golf Classic 50's series Dogwood Driver. I love the stain colour which shows off the grain pattern & the unique carbon deposit in the head.

 

I don't love the ding I put in the varnish on the head of the club - not one of my better swings!
