I did it myself with a little 'ocean blue' model paint. Any extra wipes off so easily on stainless.

I love the blue - silver combo.

It is great to compare the two . . . . . stainless has little bit less toe hang, flatter topline, TIG weld, sight oval, bead-blasted finish and the Mills Velvet grip is excellent.

Thanks for Softtail number two Jay!

Ingraha3,

Thanks for posting these beautiful pictures! That carbon Custom is exactly what I had in mind ordering for myself. I assume you ordered it directly from David Mills?

Chris

I ordered the Custom last winter through Jay Green at tpmillsputters.com. It is a standard black ox finish with sight line. The Stainless is the latest addition that I also got from Jay. It is a fully beadblasted finish that is glare free. Both finishes are fantastic! You cannot go wrong with either one.

I just got mine for a christmas present and it is absolutely amazing. I played the first round with it yesterday and it is long. I used to own rescue mid with precision rifle shaft and didn't really like it. it was hook biased, not even draw. When I bought this the face was square and the shots did everything my swing told it to do. caught a birdie on par 3 with 210 yards. It is an amazing club and it is so forgiving at the same time. I love it and if you own a rescue mid, change your clubs to BS J33 utility..

Can you elaborate on which finish you actually prefer and if the Stainless Steel feels much harsher than the carbon steel edition !!??

ThanXX in advance :)

You cannot go wrong with either finish. The black ox some say offers too much glare and requires too much maintenance. I have never had an issue with glare and with frequent silicone mine looks as good as new after 25+ humid rounds. Gorgeous finish with a wonderful soft solid feel.

The stainless is fully bead-blasted which David just started doing. It has an awesome soft satin look which is totally maintenance and glare free. To my suprise the stainless feels almost as soft as the carbon. Once I have a few rounds in with the stainless maybe I will prefer one over the other. For now I love 'em both!

What exactly does bead-blasted mean :fool:

How much did you pay for the two putters ?

the stainless and now the carbon putters are put into a bead blaster, where glass beads are "shot" on to the surfaces of the putters open the pores of the metal. in the case of the the black oxide finish, it penetrates deeper and has a "flat" non-polished look which reduces the glare.

On the stainless putters there is no finish applied to the heads other than the blasting the surfaces to make them glare free.

the stainless putter was approximately $260 and the carbon with the sightline may have been around $275 to $300.

Thanks

Jay

I have a question I've wondered about for a while; is there any benefit to the welded neck vs the later or are they both welded with one being milled to a finished look? Is this strictly cosmetic?

all necks on Mills putters are TIG welded and have been since day one. the early Mills putters were actually 3 piece heads welded together.

the beads were almost always cleaned up and removed to make a more pleasing look to the eye.

However, with more and more folks liking the bead weld left on them, we have catered to that and left it on.
