Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Rickie must've made a mistake in the video with Sara Brown.

Rickie says he has his irons with X100- 1/2 inch short, and soft stepped to make them play like a true X100. But doesn't this make them play even weaker?

Soft stepping is putting a 5 iron shaft into the 6 iron. The 6 iron is 1/2 inch shorter, so playing a club 1/2 inch shorter at the same swing weight is actually making the club play weaker.

So Rickie is putting a 5 iron shaft into the 6 iron, but playing the 6 iron at a 7 inch length. So really, he's playing the club 1 inch longer at he same swingweight. This should make the club play even weaker.

I'm not getting it. Since he's using super stiff driver, I'm assuming he just mis-spoke, and maybe his irons are HARDSTEPPED, not softstepped.

XX in the 3 wood, interesting , that's the super expensive diamana X shaft I believe.

I'm curious to see how those Diamana X's perform for his 3 wood, although I'm too crazy about its graphics.

Xx flex 3 wood, driver ,the white board is an x, tipped an 1", maybe that makes them comparable?

Wouldn't the -1/2 make them stiffer? Hence the soft stepping. I may be wrong though. Idk
[/quote]

Saw on twitter somewhere that this was exactly the reasoning behind softstepping. Shortening makes it stiffer, so the clubs were softstepped to offset that. Could be wrong though...

No. I disagree. Half inch shorter AT THE SAME SWINGWEIGHT makes the club WEAKER. This is the principle behind soft stepping.

Look at a set of dynamic golds or any stepped shaft. The first step starts lower in the shorter irons. This means they have stiffer shafts. So putting a longer iron shaft into a shorter club ie putting a 5 shaft into a 6 makes them play weaker.

Rickie is also playing his clubs shorter. Meaning his 6 iron is 7 iron length, presumably at the same swing weight. So his 5 iron shaft is going into a club thats 7 iron length. This is like softstepping twice.

Ahh c'mon! That's just hilarious! There's no way he's being serious about that! :cheesy:
I'm just surprised Cobra convinced him to switch to getting a couple trustys in the bag.
