2013 TaylorMade R1 Driver: Review, Video and Pics

I grabbed one myself today. Found the sound similar to my R11, and much better than the R11s. Tried both the stock 55g and 65tp phenom...wanting to like the 65g TP better, I just seemed to get better numbers with the 55. The TP launched quite a bit too high for me...so I saved $100.

I'm lucky enough to have a retail R1 & an R1 V2 8.5*. Been smashing the retail head with a GD AD BB & couldn't be happier but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to get my hands on the V2 & an Oban Kiyoshi White. Only had one round so far with the V2/ Kiyoshi combo but there's a lot to like, sound is much better than the retail but in saying that I quite like the sound it makes too. The graphics don't bother me at all, as long as I keep striping them up the middle I wouldn't care if it had pink polka dots

So the Black Tie is definitely an off-the-shelf option? Picking up an R1 tomorrow from GG and wouldn't mind getting the Black Tie instead of the Phenom due to the difference in weight (prefer a 70 gram shaft).

I had been pried away from TM and went to Titleist when they went white (too much glare). Actually thought it makes it harder to align but, could never get the same comfort and feel aas I had with my SuperTri gamer------until now. The R1 Black graphics are so muted and understated that you can barely see them, and this bomber is definitely hotter and 5-7 yards longer than my SuperTri, but looks and feels nearly identical. Thanks TM!!!

Love hearing posts like this. I finally just pulled the trigger today and am going from Supertri HD6 S, to R1 Ahina X. My SS is up from 98-100 when I got fitted for the ST, to 108-112 now 3 years later. I've had a 2-way miss going with the ST when I go after it (with the occasional massive hook), and am hoping this combo will be easier for me to control.
