Anaheim golf courses in May - Heading there for business

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Will be heading to anaheim for a biz trip in May. I plan to get out to a local course one day for a round. I don't have a car, but oculd get rent one for the day if necessary. With saying that, I don't want to go out too far due to the awesome traffic in that area ;)

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

Willowick? :cheesy: , not to bash the course, I play there sometimes but if your visiting the area for the first time that's the last place I would go. All the "nice" courses in the area are $100+ and to be honest I wouldn't pay that much because some of them shouldn't be more than $60.

Strawberry Farms Irvine $$$
Tustin Ranch Tustin $$$
Coyote Hills Fullerton $$
Black Gold Yorba Linda $$
Sky Links Long Beach $
Mile Square G.C. Fountain Valley $
Dad Miller Anaheim $

How close to Anaheim do you want to be, and how much do you want to spend?

maybe a couple of hundred dollars (ideally less, it will be my first round of the year) and within 45 minutes to an hour.  Thank you

2 good $40-$50 muni's are Costa Mesa and El Dorado (home of the LB open), but both are absolutely packed unless you're an early riser and playing on a weekday. A step up from those might be Goose Creek in Mira Loma at around $70, but if you're driving in traffic time you may be an hour out. Early morning and it's only maybe 40 min from Anaheim. The next step up is probably Strawberry Farms at about $140 and Oak Creek at $180. Their rates are reflective of the cost of golf in OC, not necessarily of the quality of golf you'll get. For my money, it's worth the drive to Goose Creek if you have the time. Plus you can walk it, unlike SF and OC. There's better golf at lower rates up in the canyons north of LA, but considerably farther away than what I'm listed.

+1 on the advice here....Strawberry Farms and Oak Creek (IMO) are not worth that money.  If you can get on El Do it's probably worth playing.  Black Gold in Yorba Linda is decent but will be pricey (less than Strawberry/Oak Creek) and frankly, I think, overly penal off the tee.  Unfortunately public/muni golf in the LA/OC area is not great.   Your best bets are in the Long Beach area for cost but the trade off is high demand for tee times and longer rounds (+5 hr POP).

Played Goose last weekend.  The weekend rate is $100+ an additional $5 for advanced booking.  It's in great shape.

True.

Years back, I played in the Black Gold men's club, most of us were low-to-high single digit.  Yep, it can be penal off many tees.  Overly, not to me, just bring game.

Yep. Black Gold is one I'll never recommend to anyone. A couple of cool holes, but they had no business trying to squeeze 18 holes into that spot.

One that I didn't think of - probably because I haven't played it in so long - is Talega. Depending on where you are in Anaheim, and the time of day you're driving, it's less than an hour away. I recall it being a decent track back when I played it many many years ago. If it still is, give it a look. Goose Creek still gets my vote and, again, you can hoof it if you prefer.

Absolutely, Talega is one of my favorite challenge tracks.  Last year we played there nearly every weekend, and last month; my best has been 74.  Another fav is Arroyo Trabuco GC.
