GPS guy looking for a Range Finder

I've had a skycaddie for many years and recently got a gift card for $300 to spend on some golf equipment.

 

Been reading all kinds of posts about both Bushnell and Leupold range finders.

 

What's the best one for $300? Was leaning towards a V2 w/ slope or maybe a Z6 that are both around my price range on Amazon.com.

When comparing the rangefinders from the major manufacturers (Bushnell, Leupold, and Nikon/callaway) the differences between the different rangefinders are not that big and they all are good quality units. Not sure I've seen any real complaints about usability or capability from any of them. Nor is any one of them prone to breaking down more than any of the others. Personally, I have the callaway/nikon unit but I picked it based on a sale price that made it $50 less than the other comparable units at the time.

If you go with Bushnell, you can also save some money by buying the hunting version instead of the golfing version such as the Scout 1000DX instead of the Tour Z6. Pretty much the exact same units as far as features except you are looking at a crosshairs instead of a pin and flag icon on the screen. Apparently, Bushnell believes golfers have more money than hunters.

Used a Bushnell V2 for the last couple years and just got the Z6 this last Christmas...Z6 has a little more magnification, some upgraded optics and is a little smaller but both work great.

Ditto on the hunting vs golf versions. I picked up a Leupold hunting version - probably about 25% less than the equivalent golf version. Works great.

I'm a Bushnell Medalist fan.

I've tried bunches of them, if I lost it today, I would replace it with another one tomorrow.

I have a sky caddie 2.5 and love it. But every time I goto the range I was mad because I wasn't quite sure if the distances were correct. So I ended up buying a Bushnell Z6 and love it. Quick,small,easy to use and accurate of course. When I walk 9 after work I just bring out the Z6 so I don't have to keep charging the sky caddie. They compliment each other perfectly though!

I had a Medalist, then a V2 (non-slope)and now I'm back to the Medalist. Each of them are just as good as the other as far as telling me distances. Only thing about the Medalist that like better is that because of it's shape, it is easier to hold still. All the laser units that I have read about basically work just as well as the others with differences being in magnification, slope (with or without),and the quality in the materials used for the casing. Not to mention PRICE! I went non-slope just in the remote chance that I ever was in a tournament that doesn't allow the sloped versions.

Just wanted to pipe in on the hunting vs. golf editions... I've also noticed that online photography stores seem to always have better prices on range finders than sports stores. Just an FYI. (Best overall that I have found is B&H)

B&H and Adorama are excellent online photography vendors to deal with. Many dealings with both.

I have the Bushnell V2 patriot pack & before that the Scout 1000 arc (cheaper version, hunting)... same stuff, different price as mentioned above.
I love the size and basically everything on the Z6, except the super high price, having to put lots of pressure on button to get a reading and the viewfinder does not "click" or "locks in" to a set magnification position like all other bushnells... a bit of a disappointment on those points.
