A snap-shot of a WRX'er's new build. Damasteel and Rocky Mtn 303

Recommended Posts

I won't go into a bunch of the build, but I was sizing pictures this morning and this one really caught my eye as one that you might enjoy seeing.

The putter was built as 3 pieces, flange, blade w/shoulders and then the neck. That is the reason for the remaining weld on the top view.

Damasteel is a metal that is Stainless Steel based and created similarly to Damascus. This is the first putter I have used it on for any part and I love the way it looks.

I will let the customer start his own thread with some in-process pics, as soon as it is in his hands and he can comment.

Until then, I hope you like the picture I have chosen to post.

Thanks,

LaMont in AZ

That Damasteel looks AMAZING!

I'd love to see how a whole head made out of that would look!

Quick update on this. The putter is spectacular looking and feeling. The Rocky Mountain 303 stainless feels awesome and the colors are never ending in the sunlight. Thanks again to LaMont and Nigel for everything. This is a one of a kind beauty.

How close to being face balanced is that putter. Cool looks, by the way.

It's just a hair short of horizontal. I'd consider it face balanced.

Ole What's His Name did a nice job on it... ...LaMont knows his shizzle...

If you like the look of this head, keep yer eyes peeled. There may be another coming down the pike.
This putter was the first of its kind that I had the opportunity to build, but will NOT be the last. The method is great for working shapes by hand that I cannot do in a one-piece design on the manual mill.
BTW, I just noticed in Tie's last pic that the site dot shows pretty well. Why? Because it is a titanium rod, pressed into a port milled into the top line. When the Az Hi-Heat finish is applied, each metal turns a different color at a different temperature. Keeps the finisher on his toes and also makes each and every head a guaranteed one of a kind.
Thanks for sharing your putter, TieWebb and thanks for checking it out, all who have seen this thread.
Have an amazing rest of the week!

That is an Awesome putter and coloring!!!

Is the shaft fluted? If so - nice touch...
[/quote]

It is fluted. I've never putted with one before, so I'm not sure if that's part of the reason it feels so good or not, but this putter is super smooth.

He has an incredible ability and a wide open mind. Thanks again, for this beauty, LaMont.

Great creation! I love that you have created something unique. Bold steps and exceptionally well done.

Curious what the feel of the Damasteel is compared to 303 or any carbon steels. Any feedback? Does this metal react to different temperatures and lengths of time in that temperature in regards to the colors that come out? The hues on the one above look great.

Thanks for sharing.
