National Club Membership

Recommended Posts

Steelwood CC in Loxley, AL ( just east of Mobile, AL)... 1 hour from Pensacola (PNS)

One of the very best I've ever played. A true and very Southern feel that's very secluded. My group was treated like royalty both times we've been able to visit. Nothing upfront for National members and I believe they also offer hunting a fishing on the grounds for nats.

Ok, lets expand the conversation to the West. From Colorado to SoCal to WA. I am currently going through this process and visiting a few clubs this summer. Clubs like Ballyneal, Mayacama & Rocky Creek...one of these is priced very differently.

Any National suggestions for this area you all recommend?

Prairie Dunes is the best and cheapest, Prairie Club is another option that is reasonable.

Ballyneal is insane and, frankly, they're delusional.

Not sure how this got revived, but Barnsley Gardens in Adairsville (north of Atlanta) is a fun course, provided you use carts. There's a few weird holes in there but the par 4's for the most part are challenging, with some due to length and some due to bunkers/doglegs.

Golf Club of TN. Best Fazio in the southeast
Better than Wade Hampton?
Let me rephrase that. Best fazio in the southeast that has an obtainable national membership. Wade is Deep South money

Their practice facility alone is worth the price of admission; huge double sided grass range, teaching center, short game area, multiple short game target greens. Hands down best practice facility I've had the pleasure of using. The golf courses are pretty sick to boot as well.
Recently caddied for member of Berkley Hall at a member guest tourney elseware and he raved about the practice facilities and course conditions. As far as out west I like the glacier club in Colorado and either victory ranch or Glenwild in utah.

I'm looking into this as well. Right now, the ones on my list are:
The Honors Course
Secession
CC of Sapphire Valley
Shoal Creek

Going to look into Chechessee. I'm trying to keep it within 250 miles of Atlanta. I'd like somewhere that I could finish up work and drive to without getting in way late.

If you live in Atlanta look at one of the ClubCorp local clubs. You could join and have a home club plus all the other options around Atlanta and the rest of their network for cart fee only. Several options in HH

Good friend of mine is one of the pros at Secession. I've played there and while it's a great course there are ALOT of better courses. The history and membership is the real kicker there.

History? Secession isn't even 25 years old and has never hosted an event of any significance. Sure, nice place to play a round, but what history?

Do you want to feel like yours is the only group on property when you're visiting your national club? Or do you want an upbeat vibe?

Do you want your national club to be an escape from summer heat or from winter cold?

Do you want to walk your rounds at your national club? With mandatory caddies or without? Or do you want carts with lots of cupholders for drinks?

Will you be staying on-site when you're there? Do you care how close it is from a relatively large airport?

Lots of questions that need answering regarding this issue, in general.

Old Chatham in Raleigh Is a great course, not many members, just built a cottage and are planning to build great short game area. Great people and great golf. You can't go wrong with many of the choices listed in the thread.

I'm looking for a "national" type club to join in the southeast (Carolinas, GA, FL). I know someone at Secession and have had the chance to play there a couple of times. Liked it a lot, but would be interested in other ideas as well. I live in the Northeast and would likely make it there a couple of times a year with friends and a couple of times with business associates.

The ability to send out unaccompanied guests would be a plus, as would cottage-type accommodations for members. Would love to hear of any ideas. Thanks

If you are still looking for a Southeast club with a great National membership and on-property cottages, you might want to consider Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga. Call Glenn Sheeley, Membership Dir., at 678-208-2786.

Golf Club of TN. Best Fazio in the southeast

Do you know what the initiation fee / dues are at Golf Club of TN for National membership

$40k initiation and $900 a month dues. Plus caddie fees. Golf Club is usually closed mid Dec thru mid March. Junior Membership under 40. Great club and golf course. Lots of Pros and celebrities.

I have a buddy who just did a national membership at Country Club of North Carolina - really competitive rates right now(they are replacing Dogwood's greens) and they do a junior national plan(<40).

Any suggestions on National Membership's in the Atlanta metro market? Bonus points for suggestions that do Junior(<40) National plans.

Looking forward to playing Old Chatham, Shoal, Dunes and Chechessee later this year.
