Which model do you prefer?

Newport 2 or Newport 2.5

Well, I can't decide which model I want, a newport 2 or newport 2.5, sooooo which is more popular on tour and here on golfwrx?

if it matters, the model is Studio Stainless, I don't think any thour players use this model but which head is more popular?

For my putting stroke the Santa Fe style neck of the 2.5 feels more natural and is more consistent.

My vote was for the Newport 2.5. My stroke is more the garden gate style, in, out, in. With that type of stroke, the toe hang of a 2.5 or BB-18 or Anser 4 style putter is more suitable for keeping the putter square at impact.

I dislike the hosel of the 2, so I'd go 2.5 or 1.5 - but that is because my putter has a Santa Fe hosel, so I'm used to it and like it.

i have a studio stainless with the 2.5, I tried the 2 model and hated it. The 2.5 feels much more pure, go with it.

I putt down the line. possibly a little inside down the line, with a forward press. i switched from a NC Voodoo to a scotty newport 2 by accident this summer and am putting my best ever. thought i would need to transition to a gate stroke. not so with the 2. based on the above comments, pretty clear which putter you need depending on your type of stroke.

I have to go with the Newport 2. I prefer the hosel of the 2 over the 2.5. Although whichever way you go you will be getting a great putter.

The Newport 2 is not face balanced, it has toe hang like the Newport 2.5. The Newport 2 is perfectly suited for an arced stroke.

 

It's really just a matter of preference for the hosel style. I prefer the Anser 2/Newport 2 style, although mine is a Bettinardi.

 

I would recommend going to a golf store that carries both and seeing which you prefer. There really is no wrong answer here.

daoldguy knows what he's talking about. Many people try for a SBST-style stroke, and the plumber necked putters (like the Newport 2, BB-1, BB-8, Anser or Anser 2) are generally more face balanced than the shaft-over/santafe hoseled putters (obviously depending on hosel position, length of hosel, and offset).

 

All that said, I HUGELY prefer the shaft-over/Anser 4 style hosel, even though I try for a SBST-type putting stroke. For me, it's all about how the putter appears at address, in my hand, and the ball going into the hole. If it was all about technology and perfect fitting, we'd all be putting with the AGSI+ putters after going to the MATT fitting center. :rolleyes:

Go with the Newport 2. I have a Studio Stainless and Studio Style in the Newport 2. It's the "classic Anser look".

 

But, before you buy, just make sure the putter fits your putting stroke. And check the 3Ls. That's the most important thing.
