Headed down to Hilton Head for vacation next week. Anyone played the Sea Pines courses recently? Just curious as to the conditions to expect ...

They punch twice in the summer. Unfortunately they are punching monday-wed of next week. Heron point is punching Mon-wed of the following so Heron should be in pretty good shape. Summer is maint. time so its hit or miss. Heron (in sea pines as well) is good . If you havent played Heron, you should. Its awesome, long and tough, typical pete dye.

Thanks, that's good to hear! I already know the maintenance schedule. Ocean is out since they are punching this week. I'll be playing both HT and Heron and maybe once more if the warden allows ...

This is off topic a bit but I played Harbour Towne back in April and that place was awesome. Expect a first rate staff from the starter to the caddie/forecaddie. I ended up riding and wish I didnt as I got done early due to there not being any waits. They have guys out on the course moving folks along pretty well. The forecaddie we had was first rate and made the day enjoyable. If only I could get on Long Cove lol...

When you get done go hit up the Salty Dog Cafe as it hits the spot.

Agreed with all of the above. One of the finest golf staffs I've ever seen. I played there two weeks ago and it's a very memorable experience.

As for course conditions at HT, greens were in great shape. They were punched at the beginning of June but you couldn't tell. Maybe some very small brown/dry spots on a few holes at common pitching areas closer to the green. But they weren't large enough to bother anyone in my group. Just the effects of a hot summer.

Is there an update on the conditions at Harbour Town? I know it was supposed to be punched last week but was hoping they would have the greens rolling well by this weekend.

Any information out there?

I played Harbour Town on Monday, the 29th of July. The good news is that it was in great shape the day I played it.The bad news is that they aerated the greens and fairways the next day. I know they had it closed Tuesday - Thursday of that week. I'm not sure how fast they recover or their aeration technique ...

I also played Heron Point as well. Tees and fairways were in great shape, but a couple of greens were a bit spotty. Not enough to spoil my round or affect my score, but just a heads up if you play that course. Fun, tough track.

I have tee times this Sunday and Tuesday. I was told of the aeration but also told it was a "small punch" this time of year. I am hoping that two weeks post aeration should allow them to cut and roll the greens prior to this weekend.

I didn't know that they were aerating the fairways as well. i guess its a good thing that i only see the fairway a couple times a round...

Once upon a time Salty Dog was the place. Now it's a tee shirt and kid playground.
This. Sad really.

I was hoping to win Powerball last night and buy one of the available $4m/$5m houses on the beach near the SD. I like that part of the island/Sea Pines. :)

I'll be there in Oct.

Skull Creek Boat House - try that.
Used to work there.....good place...Also try Black Marlin Hurricane bar....its right under the cross island bridge, Awesome outside bar on the water.

by oct. the course will be awesome.

You will probably be safe playing this weekend. They do really small punches late in the summer that doesnt affect it so much, after 2 weeks you should be good to go

My favorite golf couse I've ever played. Harbour Town is a great golf experience for sure. I try to play it once every year when we are down th on vacation. I've played it in all seasons and I've never been disappointed.
When I was down there. In May, they were rebuilding the practice facility at the Ocean Course. I expect it to be first rate when I go back.

For anyone that is interested... as stated above, the greens are fine but running a little slow. Greens were cut and top dressed last Monday and made for a sandy round on Tuesday. rolling much better by Thursday.

Thanks all for the great input.

For any of you guys going to play Harbour Town ask for Neil. He was our Forecaddie when I was there in March. Couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.

Nice Aussie accent as well.

Another great place to play is Daufuskie Island. There is a great Nicklaus track - Melrose - and a Tom Weiskopf design called Bloody Point. I rank Melrose just a notch below Harbour Town. Bloody Point is a fun track, not in the same league, but if you have the time to play both (easier in the summer with longer days) it can make a great day. Even just playing Melrose, it's a fun day - 20 minute ferry over and back from Harbour Town. A great day for golf outings.

Per the Bloody Point website, Davis Love re-do, course up and running - it should be in good shape, since they did close it for the re-do. TripAdvisor reviews look good.

Melrose never closed, so less sure about conditions. They are re-doing the 18th green, so are using a temporary green, but otherwise the course is fully functional.

Melrose and Bloody Point used to be jointly owned, but my impression is that they are separately owned now. Don't know if that affects whether you can get a deal for playing both the same day.

I wanted to revive an old thread to see if anyone knows the current conditions on Harbourtown? I know they were scheduled to punch the greens last week but was curious how they are shaping up.

I am heading down in a couple weeks and would like to know what I am in for...
