Either way. UPS is a little cheaper, but takes longer. USPS is a little more, but faster. I've had good experiences with both.

Based on problems experienced with UPS in the last year (one package I was waiting on sitting in a UPS warehouse for over two weeks, one driver shaft snapped in half, and another package I sent being re-scheduled for delivery 5 times before it was finally sent out for delivery) I have since started using USPS priority mail with good results. 2-3 day service, and insurance is cheap for larger/more expensive items. I like being able to schedule a pickup and having them come to my house or work to pick up as well. (cool)

I always use USPS Priority. It's fast and reliable. Never had a problem with the Post Office.

I always receive my packages reliably from UPS and FedEx, but shipping with them always seems like more of a hassle.

UPS has the best tracking system. But in Canada, I have to use the Expedited/Worldwide Express option if I don't want (cool) brokerage fees. But still, I always have to pay  duties (same with FedEx). So when it's possible, I use/ask for USPS Global Express Mail, there's sometime no duty fees :ok:

IMO the post office blows.

  • Priority mail is 2-3 with a maixmum of FOURTEEN! Yes 14 days.
  • No tracking of the package
  • Their phone system was set up to not let you talk to a human.
  • The people in the post office are not pleasant to deal with.
  • They have said they tried delivering packages when I was home and they did not ring the bell or knock. This has happened multiple times.

UPS is OK, but if you have the UPS Store ring it up you pay more.

FedEx is the camp in my book. They all are close on price, but if you have an account with FedEx and ship online you get 10% off, and if they do not hit their guaranteed date the package is FREE! They bill me based on the actual weight if I am off.

How can either of the other two compare to that? I just had one where the club went the wrong way and I did not have to pay - I gave the money to the person who bought the club for the hassle. Oh yeah, FedEx Kinkos is 24/7 so I can drop it off whenever I want to. How about the post office's restrictive hours? No comparison in my book.

USPS is way better. Never had a package not arrive in 2 days shipped Priority Mail. And I ship lots of packages that way.

In what way is USPS way better?

  • Are deliveries guaranteed to arrive on time?
  • Can you drop them off at any time of the day?
  • Can you have them bill you for the shipment?
  • Can you track the package?
  • They do not have an expression "Going FedEx" (cool)
  • Both deliver on Saturdays.

Please enlighten me on USPS being "way better", I am curious as the the evidence of that since I can not see any way that USPS is "way better". I have shipped lots of packages with all three of them and USPS was the worst in on time deliveries. It says a lot about a company willing to tell you when the package will get there and back it up with cash, rather than say it is 2-3 days with a rider (maximum of 14 days, before they will allow you to file an insurance claim).

DHL ftw!

but seriously, i've shipped all 3 big names and DHL has been as good and sometimes cheaper and faster than the other big 3.

just did a quote check on UPS, Fedex and DHL for a 10lb package of 40"x8"x8" from NY, NY to Beverly Hills, CA and DHL was cheaper than the Big Brown and the Castaway for 2 day...ground was cheaper too. only problem is finding locations in less metropolitan areas but in my experience their pickup service is very good.

more people should give them a shot and increase the competition in the express shipping industry. this will force rates lower and shipping times to be more timely.

ajlacombe, you know you can track items shipped USPS, just ask for delivery confirmatiom.

I guess it would depend on your definition of "track". Track means to follow, not to find out when it arrives. The later is delivery confirmation, I want the former and USPS can not do it.

Well, it's cheaper and 99.9% of the time it arrives in less than half the time as FedEx. Pretty much a no brainer as far as I am concened. Also, you can overnight a club for right around $22.....compared to $50-60 for UPS and FedEx.

I'll give you that the tracking system sucks....but I don't really care whether my package is in Iowa or Nebraska at any given time....as long as it shows up on time.

USPS Priority Mail. They send you all the "Priority Mail" supplies for free (boxes, labels etc.) from the usps website and they have free carrier pick up. I have sold on e-bay for 5 to 6 years (just under 1000 feedbacks) and I have not had a problem. FedEx would be my second choice. UPS in my opinion STINKS. Everytime I ho rrrrrrr buy a club on e-bay it is 95% delayed by 2 days. The tracking will show a late train, bad weather, whatever. My pro had ups deliver 2 sandwedges in row snapped in half. I will spend more from a seller if they offer usps priority mail because I can count on it coming when I need it.

ajlacombe,

*usps is cheaper.

*never had a package not arrive in 2 days and I have shipped a fair share of packages over a year.

*tracking doesn't matter, it'll get there in 2 days

*delivery on saturday is standard for USPS, you have to pay extra for UPS

*i dont care about a bill for shipment, i'm not a huge business

*post offices in just about every county in this country, i know of 4 w/i 10min. of my house.

*no UPS stores near me, don't want 2 driver 30 min. 2 1 when the post office is 5 min.

*free shipping supplies

*$50 for next day via UPS, $25 for USPS next day.

and it's 2 days cross country. sure ups will deliver a package in 1 day if it's just to the next state, but it's 6 days from VA to CA whereas VA to CA is 2 days no problem. it is rare for a package to not arrive in 3 days tops, u just had 1 bad experience and it took awhile.

so maybe if you're a business ups or fedex would be better but for people who trade and sell stuff on ebay USPS is way better

Agree with you 100%!!! I ship everything from them. Set of irons normally runs about $7. Most stuff gets there in about 3 days, but sometimes a little longer. DHL is definitely the best deal.

I've had nothing but good experiences from UPS so far. MYlocal UPS store has great customer service and I've never had to deal with long lines like at my local post office. The prices at UPS have been comparable and often better. I do appreciate the "free" shipping materials from USPS priority mail (I figure I'm paying for it in the postage), but I've heard that the other companies have ways to order free shipping materials as well.

I'd like to try DHL, but like others on here have mentioned, finding a convenient drop off has been difficult.

After reading everyone's reviews of FedEx, I think I just might try them for my next deal.

Thanks to all for your input!
