Logo Down on Grips

I have seen on here that a lot of players prefer to have their grips put on with the logo down. What is the reaon for this... at the golf shop that i work at i have never had anyone ask me to do this and i was wondering why people prefer this... i have done probably a couple hundred sets in the last 3 years and never have seen this.... thanks

Some like a clean look and some grips can be kind of busy with logos and the like.

couple hundred sets? hard to believe that nobody asked for logo down. dealers do it standard when i order clubs, and i don't even ask.

This is kind of along the lines of people removing the shaft lables or manufacturers turning the shaft graphics under as well. Some people don't like to have any "distractions" while standing over the ball. It never used to make any difference to me but I've been using Lamkin Tour Black cord grips for several years and they have the logo on the back to begin with, so anything turned forward looks a little odd to me.

i do it because not all logos are perfectly lined up and with the logo up i find that i am prone to grip it based on where the logo sits in my hands as opposed to where the club face is pointing....so logo down and clubface aligned works for me

Some like the logo down and some don't care. It has to do with personal preference.

I have both and don't notice any difference.

 

Frankly, if I'm lining up my shot and my thoughts are on the looks of the grip or shaft, I might as well get back in the cart and not bother swinging the club.

I always go logo down, here's why............

 

..........Some installers don't install the logo on the grip aligned properly, as they don't take their time to align it properly. Therefore when you take your address position, it looks "offset", or twisted somehow. It's easier for me to avoid the distraction and always install grips logo down.

My thumb tended to rest on the logo when they were logo up (Tour Velvets.) I don't notice it as much with it underneath and contacting my index finger instead.

I heard a few years ago that the pros would turn their grip names down because...

 

The majority of grips are Golf Pride, and Golf Pride refuses to pay pros for using their grips.

2 reasons I always prefer it down....

 

1) I like as few distractions as possible when addressing the ball

2) When logo's are up, it is nearly impossible to have them all exactly aligned and I find this causes more harm than good...

Piggybacking on the shaft logos down, I think it is because it is easier to get the logo in a picture in the follow through when the shaft is down. And of course now that I think that, there aren't many pictures on getty images to support my point.

the the shop i got my clubs regripped at put them up and i wanted them down. They dont seem to bother me that much but id rather have them down for

 

1) like most people it can be kinda distracting looking at "golf pride" all the time

2) it looks cleaner and makes me check to make sure my leading edge is square

3) tiger does it so we all should haha.

 

But what i can never figure out is why do people keep all the stickers on their clubs and shafts when they buy new ones. Like the white sticker on the shaft and the R,S,X, on the club head...just take it off!

Could someone post a pic of a "logo down" grip. Call me an idiot, but I don't understand how this works. Aren't logo already imprinted on the grips? Help the Naive one!!

yes they are already imprinted but grips come seperate from shafts, not sure if you know that. Also the grip is the same all around, 360*...its the same texture and feel. So what we mean when we say "logo down" is at address you dont see the logo, it is underneath(facing the ground). So when you put a grip on the club, put it on so it would be facing the ground at address. Not rocket science...logo down means logo down haha.

I too prefer the logo down,,and have been doing it that way long before I ever heard Tiger's name.That being said I now use the Golf Pride "Decade" grip and if I put the logo down it changes the layout and feel of the grip,,,so I've learned to live with the logo up.

I have re gripped my clubs before on my own and in my head I couldn't visualize LOGO DOWN. To me its LOGO UNDER. I get it now.

I also have the logo down on my GP Tour Velvets. Like a lot of people say I like the cleaner look, but it also helps me with alignment.

 

I had a tendancy for my right hand to rotate underneath the club in my setup. With the GP logo down, when I grip the club the right way I can just feel the edge of the "G" in the correct portion of my index finger. I barely notice it now, but whenever I hit a bad shot I can quickly tell if my grip was off by checking for the feel of the "G".

I do it because Greg Norman, Tiger and Davis started it with the Tour Velvet Cords. I want to feel like I am a tour player by doing everything a tour player does. When Tiger's lob wedge didnt have a ferell(spelling) I cut mine off and wham I am just like Tiger. I just want to look like I have a game because more people will see my and my clubs but less will likely ever see me play.

a lot of guys (including me) just prefer the clean look to a logo down grip... plus when you're regripping your clubs its a lot easier cause you dont have to worry about getting the grip on perfectly straight or now (cool)

some proline grips are manufactured with the logo on the underside (e.g. Titleist version of GP tour velvet cords). the butt cap writing is right side up with the Titleist down on the grip.

 

also, if you use ribbed grips you can't install them upside down.

 

i personally don't care and have clubs with both. that being said, next regrip will be done by me with logos down (cool)

when you grip down with the logo up, i often get blisters from the rubbing of the logo. Gets fairly bad- so logo down all the way
