If any of you guys are looking to fill up some down time this winter you might take a look at this new book by Golfweek staff writer Bradley S. Klein. While there is enough material concerning the typical technical and aesthetic qualities of well known courses to keep the hard-core design aficionado interested, Klein also draws upon his fourteen year career as a political scientist to suggest some deeper social significance for these places where we pursue our obsession. If you ever wanted to know more about how golf courses are built and the various social, economic, and environmental concerns that go into the project, Wide Open Fairways provides an enlightening perspective on these issues. Beyond this, there are a number of lessons in the book that might be worth considering as we envision course design moving forward and our roles within our local clubs. It is a vastly interesting read.

I had picked it up a couple months ago but I havent had a chance to get into it yet. I am interested in diving into it.

I'm about halfway through this book. It is a good and entertaining read.
