recommend Vegas course within cab ride from strip

Recommended Posts

Im heading to Vegas 1st week of october. There is 8 of us going but only 2 of us are going for 1 round of golf (husband & wives trip) my buddy is not an avid golfer he will shoot 110-120 most likely, me well I'm on this site so I obviously love my golf! Anyways where shoukd we play? I was actually working on a deal with a guy from Walters golf to play Desert Pines but that has fallen through because they no longer own the course. Looking to pay maybe $125-$150 including rentals, and a short distance from the strip as we will be cabbing it.

Isn't it the TM Practice Center now?

Rent a car. They are dead cheap in Vegas, way less than a return cab trip and take the 20min drive out to Pauite, otherwise, just skip the golf if you are going to limit yourself to the strip. It'll be pricey and not that great, unless you go really high-end.

Las Vegas Golf Club is about 8-9 miles/maybe 15-20 minutes from the strip depending on traffic. It's a pretty mediocre course (think of a local muni course), but should be easier for your hacker friend as it's hard to lose a ball. You can probably get that for around $100 per man (maybe even less) including the club rental. If you guys are walkers, this is one of the few courses in Vegas that allows walking.

Las Vegas National Golf Club is much closer, about a 4 mile/10 minute cab ride from most places on the strip. If you play in the afternoon you could probably get it for $160-$170 with the rentals, unless you find a better deal on golfnow. Much better course but still really nothing to write home about.

Ok lets widen the grid a bit. Lets say we will do up to $50 cab ride each way does this give anymore recommendations? I played Royal links (just wanted the replica holes) last year and Angel Park many many years ago.

If you are willing to spend $50 each way on a cab you might as well just rent a car for the day. You can get a full size car from Enterprise for like $45-$50 per day including all taxes/fees, and they will bring it to your hotel. I see you are from Canada so I don't know how that plays into it though.

I agree with the car rental crowd. I've been to Vegas with clubs many times and will not go without renting wheels. It's far cheaper than cabs and just about every hotel has a valet who will tuck the car away for a few bucks. Lots of self parking too......

Not only can you broaden your course selection, you and your wife can go see the dam.

Back to the question. For $50 each way you guys can get to Las Vegas National or the Legacy. Bali hai sux (imo).

Just think though, if you had a car and Internet, you could get a GolfNow deal the day before....

In any event, have a great trip!

Bali Hai is your best bet near the strip, but it'll exceed your budget especially if your renting equipment.

I had a blast playing Bali Hai and the time savings from taking a cab off the strip was what put it over the top for me when I played there. I had one round I wanted to squeeze in and they did not disappoint. Top notch rentals, real nice facility and honestly I had the place pretty much to myself since I played during the day.

If you are there for a husbands/wives trip and just want to squeeze in one quick round with a buddy, renting a car is a pain. I dont think you'd be disappointed with Bali Hai.

I've played almost every course in Vegas. I agree with rental car. Cheper than cabs. Parking is free. Why would you NOT rent a car?

Bali Hai is VERY close. Can almost walk to it from the airport. It is not great, but not that bad, either.

In your price range, consider Revere Golf Club (two decent courses to choose from) which is not too far afield in Henderson or Badlands, a nice 27 hole layout in Summerlin.

I've taken a cab from Aria to Spanish Trails. I think the cab was around $25, but don't hold me to that. They have three 9's. It's a private course that has public tee times. It's a residential course, nothing too memorable, but decent. I think I paid $90 for 18 and played all 27. I do remember the staff and members I encountered being friendly and accommodating.

One more thought....

If you do decide to taxi your way to the course, make sure you call for a cab while on the 17th tee.

Depending on the course, it takes anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to get the return cab. If there's a big event going on, closer to the hour.....

Of course, from the casino end, the cabs are waiting for the doorman's whistle.

Spanish Trails is a great suggestion that would hit all your criteria.
Also look at Bear's Best. Pretty close to the Strip, incredible views and always in good condition.
My next option would be Rio Secco. Located in the hills of Henderson, it's a fun course and the home of Butch.

PLEASE stay away from Bali Hai.... massively over priced with the constant noise of jets buzzing you.

Why don't you travel with your clubs. Won't have to worry about rental fees. Rent a car that way you have endless possibilities 20+ minutes from the strip.
[/quote]

Because traveling with clubs for one 18 hole round would be a pain in the ***. At least that's how I feel.

Rio Secco and Bear's Best are both $50 cab rides each way from the central Strip (think Bellagio/Caesars). I did it once before renting vehicles, even if it's only for a day.

You couldn't pay me to play Bali Hai again. The air traffic is mind numbing and I had a headache by the 4th hole. Just an ok track that charges exorbitant prices for being on the Strip.

Agree, for me Bali Hai was a once and done!

Β

You want insane air traffic while golfing in Vegas?

An occasional outbound Southwest 737 has nuttin on the Blue Angels!

Without exaggerating, I'd say in 3.5 hours we viewed/heard/felt (from just a few hundred yards) over 200 takeoffs and landings of anything that could fly.

WOW!

Ya no point in paying $50 to bring my clubs on airline for 1 round, anymore rounds and ya for sure i woukd bring my own. One more question, am I better off waiting and just booking something the day before (looking 7-730am round) for a deal or pre booking in advance. Looking like i am going with car rental too. Thanks for everyones opinions
