Order from Japan Rakuten?

Hi,

I am thinking about ordering some golf clubs from the website Rakuten in Japan.

I would like to know some experiences whether there is any difficulty, tax, etc involved in the process.

Thanks.

I got a Ping putter from them. No issues at all. Dealer emailed me in somewhat broken English, but I had no problems. Putter built to spec.

My only incident with Rakuten was with Golfpartner as well. I ordered a driver with Stiff shaft but I received an X-Stiff instead. I actually played the X and it was fine but I really didn’t have a way to exchange it.

Note I’ve purchased dozens of other gear from Golfpartner without incident so that one time was an anomaly.

I have bought various golf gear thru Rakuten for several years from different vendors without incident. They are usually very proficient in their dealings with the US folks. I have never had to pay any additional customs taxes or such either.

It is my understanding that the vendors selling on their site have to pay a large sum of money, like a surety bond or something like that, before they are allowed to sell their merchandise . I'm not sure of the amount, but I've heard thru various sources that it is around $8K. All the vendors there are vetted.

I will warn you to pay attention to exactly what you are buying in order to avoid having to go thru any returns, which I imagine could be a pain in the keester. I have always received my items in very good condition in less than 10 days without fail as well.

    Best of luck!

Oh, that's surprising. I have bought few clubs from them (brand new in plastic too!) and everything was fine. I know they don't do returns but if they sent you the wrong club... What did you order and what did you receive?

No experience buying golf equipment on Rakuten. However, my Japanese wife orders stuff all the time and we've never had an issue with any sellers and never had to pay any tax or had shipments held up by customs etc....

Looking at a few things myself on there, any sellers anyone would specifically recommend? Looking at atomicgolf specifically...

I have been contacted by Golf Partner ( Rakuten ) and we are in the process of returning the driver. They have been very very professional ever since my credit card company contacted them.

If you guys are worried about buying used gear and getting a wrong item shipped, you can try buyee. You get a japanese mailing address, stuff gets shipped to it, then you can request package inspection, photos, etc. Then you pay shipping to you and they send it. I've ordered Basielus AAA shaft that way and added their protective packaging service. Pricey but worth it if you're buying expensive s***.

I believe the companies on there have a chart which shows shipping cost based on weight.

We pay customs, Value Added Tax and a handling charge here in the UK can't speak for the US

I haven't ever had to pay customs or VAT here on the west coast. Just the item price and shipping (which has been increasing exponentially as of late).

No issues here. I've bought from Golf Puresuto, Atomicgolf, Golf Ranger.

Being in Hawaii, the shipping is actually faster than the US Mainland guys for once.
