Pebble Beach Fan Viewing

Debating going to the US Open at Pebble. Does anyone have knowledge of the fan viewing experience at Pebble? I know it has varied greatly at recent US Opens. Obviously at home watching on TV is the best way to watch it finish Sunday, but if the experience at Pebble is decent I may go for a day or two.

Is it easy to navigate the grounds?

Many up close viewing areas?

I figure there should be some experience from someone on here beings they host an annual PGA event and have had fairly recent Opens.

Thanks in advance!

From a viewing standpoint, went to the 2010 US Open, was awesome to see the course one time and highly recommend it, but there were so may people I'll never go back unless it's to play. The ATT tourney should be different, so YMMV. If you get the chance to play in the future, that is a far better experience.

I have attended the US Opens that Watson, Kite, Tiger and McDowell have won. I love Pebble Beach but not a fan of the spectator experience. There are some really bad areas of congestion with the worst being where 3,4,16 and 17 come together and trying to get from hole 5 to 6. There are many more areas I don’t like or shot perspectivesthat make it difficult to see. That is why I haven’t purchased tickets for this year. The TV coverage is so extensive I prefer that at this point in my life.just my 2 cents.

Well, crap. Any areas that are recommended to hang out? I don't plan on following anyone, more looking for an area or two that you can get close to an approach shot.

As listed above, it's a madhouse where 3/4/16/17 converge. It's with good reason as it's the only area with that much action.

Almost everywhere is crowded because there is actually not that much space in relation to the number of people attending.

A relatively good spot is 2nd green which gets you quick access to 3rd tee and a short hop to 15th green and 16th tee/fairway.

Maybe the least crowded, but a bit boring, is 11th green / 12th tee.

2010 was a complete sh**show. Crowds were 5 deep for the top guys. If you're gonna do it then go for a practice round.

Attend a practice round instead and walk the course backwards from the 18th green so you see more groups

What were the Thur/Fri rounds like not following a big name?

I definitely can't make a practice round. Am leaning towards a weekday round. Do they tend to be less crowded or are all days typically a #$#% show?

Appreciate everyone's help....although it isn't exactly what I was hoping to hear!

Weekdays only slightly less crowded. Wherever Tiger is will draw the big crowds so if you don’t like crowds stay away from that. No day is not crowded at the USOpen.

I went to a practice round in 2010 and it's "fine." The course isn't really built for stadium seating so your best shot is to camp out at a tee box or two and avoid the congestion areas already described above. I had a good time but I also knew it wasn't going to be the viewing experience of a lifetime. Avoid Tiger at all costs, he moves a sea of people. If you catch a nice day of weather the grounds are beautiful.
