How do I stop the hit impulse??

Here is the epitome of my hit impulse ruining my swing:

My mentality here is to get the feeling by practice swinging 3-4 times, then moving straight over the ball and doing the same again... Except it doesn't work!

My practice swings have everything I want from a golf swing, woosh at the bottom, hands forward through impact area, hips and lower half starting correctly and no cast.

My actual swing however has none of those THINGS. In fact, if you stop at impact you'll see my hands are about 10cm behind.

I don't know how to get rid of this mentality when over the ball. Any ideas?

Biggest issue I see from the face on video is hip sway instead of turn.

Any reason why you say the result would be horrible from the practice swing? Thought it looked okay to me...

The best way I've found to cure hip sway is to watch yourself in a mirror. Put a piece of masking tape in a straight line or use the edge of the mirror and start with your trail hip right at the edge. Groove a turn that does not move away from the ball.

As for closing your eyes, I do think it helps swing through the ball. Try 1/4 and half swings with your eyes closed or looking at the ground past the ball.

That sounds like some good advice.

Focus on the 12" past the ball vs the 12" prior.

In looking at your actual swing, you're over-swinging. While counter-intuitive, golf at times can be a game of "less is more". As you over swing on your backswing you make it much more difficult to sync up your lower half of your body. You rehearsed it quite well prior to swinging (you got the hip rotation and impact position correct), but you stood up in your downswing as a result of a larger backswing.

Consider feeling as though you're taking a half swing - feel as though your club stops at waist height in your backswing. Video taping yourself doing full speed swings with the feel of the club stopping at waist height will actually look like a perfect "full length" backswing! You'll be able to coordinate your body better and ideally you will make more solid contact. The key to hitting the ball farther is to hit the ball in the center of the face consistently. This should help you!

Hitting balls with your eyes closed most certainly helps. Stand up to the ball, take two easy practice swings, move over the ball, close your eyes and then swing to the target.

A great drill is to throw your clubs--to a target. Check out Fred Shoemaker, Extraordinary Golf, chapter 5, Instinctive Knowledge and the drill section, pp. 190-200. Or check Youtube for Shawn Clement"s videos (and others) on throwing clubs.

I’m no expert but it sure looks like you’re swaying all over the place
