Upcoming Scottsdale Trip Itinerary

I am looking to for some input on our course selection for an upcoming trip.

Wickenburg Ranch

WeKoPa

Kierland

Papago

Camelback Ambiente

We have a home rented near Orange Tree and would prefer not to travel more than 30 minutes, other than the first day at Wickenburg Ranch. We ran a Cactus Cup Ryder Cup style last year and played Verde River, Grayhawk, WeKoPa Southern Dunes and Estrella.

Any thoughts?

Looks pretty good to me, though I'd swap out Kierland for something like Boulders, Legend Trail, Talking Stick North, or even Eagle Mountain.

Definitely think you should replace Kierland with one of the suggestions above. Also, I just can't bring myself to recommend Ambiente for visitors. It is a good golf course but not good enough to be played by a group out here for desert golf. I also think the Boulders is "over housed" at this point and it has really hurt the complex. There are some cool holes but you really feel like it is a jammed in neighborhood course on a lot of others. Excellent design to be sure however.

Ambiente is a good course..but if you are after desert golf it's not so much. I would definitely swap out Kierland for most any other courses. Way over priced for what it is. A good course close to Kierland would be Wildfire if you can get a good rate. While not a huge favorite, I think it's fun for non-locals and everyone I have taken there really likes it. It's desert golf without being terribly gimmicky though there is a good amount of housing. Verde River could be another option. Not what it was 3-5 years ago but still fun and housing is limited to a few holes (unless that's changed in the last year or so)

Agreed. As a visitor I would avoid Camelback all together if possible. I booked Ambiente once because of all the positive comments here. Showed up and they told me it was closed and they stuck me on Padre. Padre was not what I was looking forward to. It's just a golf course. Not what you'd expect as a visitor to the area.

Next time in town, I finally got on Ambiente and while it was head and shoulders above Padre, it's just not what you go to Scottsdale for.

Ak Chin (Southern Dunes) is one not to miss although its 45 minutes away. Great track.

We are doing the same trip in the beginning of May. We have the following tracks

Eagle Mountain

Greyhawk - Raptor

Quintero

We Ko Pa - Saguro

Thinking about Troon N Pinnacle instead of one of the above. Thoughts...?

I actually like Kierland and especially when it would be as close of a drive as it will be for you. 4 days of desert golf gets old quick when playing in groups and constantly looking for balls in the desert if your groups skill level is all over the place.

Play Pinnacle and Saguaro for sure.

Quintero is good for the views. Raptor is ok. Did not play EM.

horrid opinion! Kierland is the epitome of boring and the last course you come to AZ to play!

Our final line up was set as :

TPC Champions

Grayhawk

TPC Stadium

Personally we love desert golf as it’s such a contrast to our Canadian course in Alberta.

And like most of us it is on hold until a later date.

For us puttnforthe8 and az2au have given us great insight on our choices and selections.

Until then, enjoy the golf down south fellas and we hope to be there again one day soon.
