New Putter Time

Here's what I'm looking for in my new putter:

Quality

Anser/Anser 2 (Newport/Newport 2) Style

Good Feel***

That's about it. I haven't decided if I want carbon or stainless. I'm willing to spend up to $300 but would really like to keep it down.

The brands that I've looked at are TP Mills, C&L, and Byron. So far I'm leaning towards the C&L because of the plumbers neck over the TP Mills and I just don't know much about Byron putters.

Opinions/Recommendations?

I've tried out the Ping Karsten Anser putter and it set up nice but the feel was its downfall. Another putter I tried recently was the TM Itsy Bitsy Spider just to see why everyone liked it so much. I was surprised by the putter and liked it but I don't want to go with another mallet styled putter. I don't like the SC Studio Select or the older Studio Style putters with the insert. One thing I don't like about my current putter is distance control. I absolutely hate the insert. I'm leaning towards a carbon putter but am not sure.

Pick up a SeeMore FGP Black along with Pat O'Brien's putting DVD. You won't regret it. It will make you a better putter and you will shoot lower scores.

No need for hype when you have results to prove it.

If I were to lower the price to $200 for the putter (can still buy used) then what would you guys recommend? Plumbers style neck is a must.

Did you try the Redwood series Anser? Feels pretty good to me.

any scotty cameron putter is a great buy.

There is a nice C&L for $175 in the BST which if I could justify the purchase would no longer be there. That's definitely a deal.

Find a Scotty Mil Spec in the weight you like, in good condition. A classic.

I think that a 1310 Mills Tradition II would be tremendous but that will cost more than $300. I would definitely consider a Byron Morgan 007. It has the lines of an Anser and is a terrific putter. My current gamer is a Byron Morgan 007x (with Rincon neck, like a Santa Fe style). Byron makes absolutely fantastic putters. I don't know much about C&L but have heard these are terrific putters as well.

I also like the Ping Anser redwood, though I'm looking for a carbon putter rather than stainless.

I would recommend checking out the Bettinardi putters as well. The mizzuno ones are really cheap right now if you don't mind getting an older model. I really like the feel and sound of them.

C&L, Bettinardi Mizuno, Mil-Spec, or Mills would all be great...just be sure to buy used. The Mizuno Bettinardis take a hit on the used market, and you can get some great deals (around $100). My favorite Anser of all time is the Cameron Mil-Spec ($125-$225, depending on weight and condition), but I've loved the C&L I've owned (probably $160-$200), too.

I'd go carbon if I were you. Any old manufacturer can make a putter out of stainless, but the true craftsman seem to make their masterpieces out of carbon. Besides, it just feels so darned pure.

In this class, putters aren't better than each other . . . just different. Pick the one that speaks to you.

You can get a brand new Mizzuno Bettinardi for $125 at golf town which is about $100US. Really good deal for a new one.

Hey, Check out the RIFE IBF Series ( Aussie or Aussie Mallet ). They are made out of 303 Stainless Steel and with the milled face and Roll Groove Technology, they feel awesome. Any retailer will have them in there, so try em out. Good luck with your search. Search Rife Aussie and you'll see how many people like them.
