Nice eye as always, Greg. Did you notice both red and black numbers, or were they all the same?

There weren't any numbers or writing on them. I just kicked a Titleist practice range ball over to be in the photo with the protos

Got a sleeve of each in the mail from Titleist to test out a couple weeks ago

Pro-V2's. They look the same from above, but don't have the adjustability.

I don't think it's the new ProV1 and ProV1x yet - I think the normal test period is later in the year around October. The new version would then be released in the early part of 2017.

they prob gave you some random balls and each one is prob different, so when you give your survey too them. you can tell them which shape marked on the balls was the best and compare them to the regal ones you game. thats what i did when i got my sleeve, i spent almost a week with the three balls and playing two shots one with the test ball and the other with a everyday ball. last test balls i got were the new txt tour s, they seemed soft for a 3 piece ball but still had a heavy feel compare to my everyday ball. after i gave my review on em i ended up jus giving the test balls to my brother and couple friends so they could try em out also and they all came back with the same thought i had on em.

each one is different. you are supposed to play them side by side and compare them to give them feedback. enjoy them!

Your timeline is true for the public feedback phase that they do, but the next version of the ball is pretty locked in by then. Tour feedback is certainly taken in the fall as the ball specs get more finalized, but it's also gathered throughout the year as they design and test different mantle layers, formulations, etc.

So, it's highly unlikely these are something other than different test iterations of the next balls in the Pro V1 family. Whether that means these two specifically are the Pro V1 and Pro V1x, or perhaps two different ideas for the Pro V1x, that's what we don't know.

They better get on the stick , the new Callaway chrome soft is better than the pro v 1. All around. And I'm a life long Titleist ball user.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got to test the triangle and the square last week. Unless they are abandoning the Pro V platform, they were definitely the next gen V1 and V1x. Unfortunately, I played them on a crowded weekend round and wasn't able to hit them side by side or directly compare against existing Pro V1 and V1x models. They did feel very good but I didn't notice a significant difference in length or dispersion. Next time, I'll save them for a late afternoon practice round were I can hit multiple balls and get better data.

Speaking from experience... Titleist reps comes around in Early Spring the year before to pros that play either model with different variations on the model. The rep will usually go out on the course in a practice round and ask the player to hit 3 shots under different unique scenarios with both test models and their current ball. The ProV1x ball we had in 2012 when they conducted this test had massively different characteristics. The ball that recieved the best feedback was the test ball that the rep said was closest to the 2007 model. It was softer around the greens. He noted that in 2009 and 2011 had somewhat harder covers and they were trying to ween the likes of Luke Donald and Louis off of the 2007. Consequently, the 2013 x model that resembled the 07 is the one that went to market.

I had triangles and squares sent to me the other week. Almost 100% that they are the new Pro V's. Square seemed like the X.

Got the survey, but no pellets as of yet. It's probably because I wrote a frickin' honest novel for my assessment in each entry. Their 10 minute survey took me the better part of an hour. Hopefully, an hour of my time is worth a sleeve or two of test balls. Then again, they may worry about having to read the in depth report that would follow. :)

Full disclosure.......been a ProV1x user for the better part of 15 years without deviation. However, the new Chrome soft has my interest peaked.
