How do you identify fake Miura wedges?

Recommended Posts

I assume the Miura heads on DHGate and AliExpress are fake, and it seems like discussions here suggest that is so.

I understand that the ones on 2ndSwing are generally accepted to be authentic.

In looking at the photos on the Chinese sites, nothing jumps out at me as obvious signs of being fake. Are there key things that can be looked at? I am specifically looking at eBay listings (Yes, I know that the only way to guarantee authenticity is to buy new from an authorized dealer)

i just recently bought 2 wedges(51,55) from 2nd swing, they were listed as mint. they arrived 3 days later with the plastic wrap still on the heads in separate boxes. (brand new wedges)used only the 55 in a 9 hole round last night felt great almost a i didn’t swing hard enough sound coming from the iron but with great distance. might take some getting use to. very soft feel the few times i did hit it. tome will tell

Those look nice but you didn't answer my question :)

I got a couple nice Y grind 1957s from 2nd Swing and a Wedge Series 51 that's gorgeous. Looking mainly at K Grind stuff now and higher lofts, since 2ndSwing only has 53 and below now.

Very safe bet that 2nd swing items are authentic. I've got two Miura wedges from there, they came in basically new condition for significant discount (looked like they had hit 3-5 balls indoors).

There's a good chance that fake miuras are sold on ebay/aliexpress/dhgate that have no visually discernible difference from legit ones. If it seems like it might be coming from a questionable seller, or the price is too good to be true, could almost guarantee it's fake.

Those look like fake to me, but I can't tell you why. The finishing does not look like the traditional Miura finishing to me, and honestly they just look odd to me.

99% of fakes are cast not forged

I think the fakers buy/source original heads as use them as master models for casting

I have seen Epons that were 99.9% as good, but cast and polished

Having said that, would not suggest contibuting to their cause
