The turnout is pretty good considering the schedule. I think the format is kind of cool (at least interesting and different) and the tournament could have benefited from being a week or two earlier or having a week off before Evian. Would have been cool to have all of the top players teaming up with someone and playing here.

So Shanshan dropped out to be replaced by Angel Yin in a team with Yu Liu.

Hannah Green not playing between majors is odd.

Lol. I think Suzann and Gimme (Alison Lee) would be a good pairing.

Money can do that to people who've never felt financially secure all their life.

Money, on the other hand, is never the driver once people have enough of it.

Tiger Woods has earned $118 million official money and is worth five to ten times that; what's keep him going is the sense of achievement.

R&A's head is screwed on right regarding Women's British Open:

[https://golfchannel.com/news/ra-focused-enhancing-status-womens-british-open](https://www.golfchannel.com/news/ra-focused-enhancing-status-womens-british-open "https://golfchannel.com/news/ra-focused-enhancing-status-womens-british-open")

"Asked Wednesday whether he foresees a day when the women and men would compete for equal pay – the women’s purse is now $4.5 million, compared to $10.75 million for the men – R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers said he’s more focused on a sustainable business model for the Women’s British Open."

It looks like AIG sponsorship is temporary and The R&A will take full ownership of Women's British Open; making it the equivalent of The Open.

[https://golf.com/news/2019/07/17/ra-teases-exciting-changes-womens-british-open/](https://www.golf.com/news/2019/07/17/ra-teases-exciting-changes-womens-british-open/ "https://golf.com/news/2019/07/17/ra-teases-exciting-changes-womens-british-open/")

"During a pre-tournament press conference at Royal Portrush on Wednesday, R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers teased some exciting news regarding the future of the Women’s British Open, which the R&A will take full control of next year."

"For starters, Slumbers asserted the R&A’s desire to elevate the women’s game, and explained that doing so requires a commitment at the amateur level as well. An investment of 200 million GBP will be made into the R&A’s areas of interest relating to the game over the next decade. Earlier this month, the R&A made headlines for increasing the Women’s British Open purse by 40 percent, bringing the total prize tally to $4.5 million."

Do 3 wins still get you immediate promotion to the LPGA? Not that it matters that much cause I think there would be only 4 events left for her on the LPGA should she get that 3rd win.

She should learn from Brooke not to give up a chance to win Rookie of the Year!

Players can win, earn Player of the Year and be No. 1 all their career; but ROY only comes once in a lifetime.

It's a great goal but truthfully I'm not sure who the Korean rookie stand out will be next year but I'm sure she's coming and will be there lol. I'm not sure who will win the 2020 Louise Suggs Rolex rookie of the year but if it was set to music it would be set to a K-Pop anthem. B)

I'm guessing it will be Hye Jin Choi. She has four wins on the KLPGA this season, in addition to four other top 10s. She's currently ranked #22 in the World.

According the script; Hye Jin Choi, Rolex world No. 22, is scheduled to join LPGA in 2020.

But she needs to qualify for LPGA either by winning or top 40 money or Q-Series; none is a slam-dunk.

I'd say she would have no difficulty getting a card via Q-series. A win at Q-series is tough, but she has more than enough game to earn a top 10.

"The driver speeds that LPGA golfers produce are closer to low-handicap male amateurs than the Koepka/Woodland/McIlroy types on the PGA Tour. For example, LPGA club fitter Paul Boehmer confirmed that the women’s driver club head speeds average about 90-95 mph, similar to men with golf handicaps below 12.

However, LPGA golfers combine their swing speed with far more consistent strikes in the middle of the clubface, with smash factor numbers between 1.48 and 1.52, according to Boehmer.

In other words, their efficient swings are things of beauty that amateur golfers of either sex should try to emulate – and that’s before any discussion of their typically marvelous short-game skills."

At one time the LPGA players were getting more yards per mph than the PGA tour players. I don't think this was coming from smash, so it must have been better launch/spin (historically, more of the LPGA players have hit up on the ball with the driver).

I've wondered how many are still sub-95 mph? I think SHP is right around 100 mph, Lexi maybe a tad higher. I think there's going to be a lot more players in the 95-100 range going forward.

Also, I think there are some stats that have the average scratch male at about 105 mph, so the 95 mph range is probably more like someone shooting in the low-to-mid 80s. All the more impressive from the women.

Well, part of the definition of scratch is a player that hits the ball 250 yds off the tee. 95 mph does that. The longer hitters are probably closer to 100 mph now, but there are still plenty of players averaging 255 yds or less.

It's interesting to see that there are currently no players averaging less than 240 yds. In previous years, there were always 10 or more players in the 225 - 239 range.

No doubt 95 mph can get you 250 yards with roll-out. But that's with near perfect strike/launch, which I guess someone near scratch should be close to.

Anyways, here's the data. I think two sigma was about 8 mph (can't find the article that mentioned this though).

https://blog.trackmangolf.com/performance-of-the-average-male-amateur/

Edit: 2 sigma was about 9 mph

This is what the USGA defines as scratch when setting the ratings for a course. I've been trying to reconcile the difference (and/or understand what problems may be in the sample in the Trackman article), but I'm not sure that means there's any connection to to what actual golfers have a 0 index.

Personally, I tend to think there is some correlation between speed and skill. Most of the people that I've seen shooting in the mid-70s consistently seem to hit it closer to 275 or so. It can definitely be done at 250, but for everyone I've seen at this distance I think there's someone straddling 90 as well.

What distances are they playing? Playing ~6500 yds, the median for LPGA players is now 260 yds, and the median scoring average is 71.78. If they were men they'd be +3 or better. I agree that there is a correlation between distance and scoring, but there's more to it than pure distance.

I'd say 6500 yards +/- 200 yards or so.

I don't think the LPGA player averaging 260 and basically par being +3 means bump both of these down a bit so 250 = scratch. The LPGA players have a complete game whereas there's a lot of people that can hit it 250 but have no idea where its going or get up and down at 1/2 the rate of the LPGA players. I'm not refuting that someone hitting it 250 can be scratch. Based on some of your comments, I'd guess you are pretty close to that. I just don't think the average drive of all scratch players is 250 yards despite how the USGA is labeling it. Of course, there are people hitting it 275+ that can't break 80 regularly, so I understand the limitations of the chart these guys posted but my reaction is that its more right than wrong.

Also, just curious but have you seen what the index is for an average LPGA player? I was thinking the figures you mentioned were probably more like +2 to +3. I am guessing but my though was

a) 71.75 is basically par.

b) Never checked everyone but a few players (although better ones) had a standard deviation of just under 3 strokes per round.

c) The handicap calculation is something like your 75th percentile score, which is like 0.7 standard deviation or about -2.

d) These players are probably posting scores on 130-140 slope courses (I think this would still matter in the calc).

e) Edit: the courses the LPGA players play may be rated above par. I don't recall figures on this as well. I thought a lot are around par, although it may skew higher.

There are obviously a lot of very low winning scores on tour. Maybe these people shoot -6 more often than they shoot +6, which would make their index more positive (i.e. better). Again, I don't know here. Mostly just asking.

Yes, and there are four on Symetra with two wins this year.
