Traveling with clubs

My experience mirrors yours almost exactly. I use a softbag with a stiff arm and nothing else.

I wouldn't say the time is wasted - just precautionary. I use a Club Glove/Stiff Arm combo and have never had any problems. Only fly a couple times a year so I'm a novice compared to you. One thing I've always done is wrap a towel around the top of my woods. I don't want the irons to gouge into the graphite shafts. Otherwise I just pack and go.

Ya I take my driver head off as then it enables me to fold up an additional rain jacket and pants (I take two sets when I go to the UK) and put them at the top of my golf bag, like you I also stuff my towel in between the iron heads, as it's got to go somewhere.

I think (or would hope) we can all agree that anyone who shows up on a trip with a hardcase should be made to rent another car just for them and have to pick up the tab each breakfast :-)

I've shipped via FedEx before and just had them held at FedEx office. Never had problem figuring out the golf bag part. Borrow one (may be old rental bag some courses may have lying around) or when I visit home theres a few old ones in the garage etc..

Sun Mountain Club Glider soft travel bag, Stiff Arm, and pull the head off your driver (and 3 wood if removeable) and no issues. I have travel more times than I can count like that and no issues ever. The glider rolls better than my damn suitcase does.

Anyone use Shipstix /UPS/Fedex using a soft travel cover and if so how did the bag hold up as compared to airline travel? I shipped my clubs in a box from NY to FL last year and the clubs were fine although the box was beat up pretty good after the round trip. I will use all the same precautions with soft cover like: take driver head off, stiff arm, etc. Thoughts?

100% same scenario, bag etc.. . Love the Club Glider its so ridiculously easy to move around. On and off escalators, no problem. Painless to walk through airports for me. Better than my 4 way carry-on I bring with.

And it takes 30 seconds to remove both driver and 3 wood head. Totally worth doing so IMO.

Agree 100% on the use of hard case vs. soft travel bag.

I fly at least 4 times a year on golf trips and have had the same Clubglove bag for over 15 years. Got the "stiff arm" as a gift 10 years ago.

I usually wrap a soft garment bag with my golf clothes around my golf bag and also carry my golf shoes. I know the airlines say that it should only contain the golf clubs but I have not had any issues.
