Ball for 8 year old

My son is a competitive golfer and we are looking for a new ball. Right now he pretty much place whenever he finds except we toss distance balls back. He shoots high 70s / low 80s playing around 4000 yards, and we want to get him into a single ball for consistency.

He likes very soft balls, and we need something that spins a lot around and coming into the greens. Often with a 6 iron he cannot even hold the green if he lands his ball on the front. Driver distance is about 140-145, but we aren't looking for any more distance, just stopping power coming into greens with a soft feel. He can stop chips pretty fast because he can hit a high-soft 56.

We have buckets full of golf balls so I can dig around and pull things out. He likes the Callaway super soft, Bridgestone e6, and the project (a), but I'm having a hard time finding spin data especially for approach shots. There are plenty of reviews of people looking at spin off a driver, but that doesn't help much, and unfortunately every golf ball manufacturer advertises every ball as going really far and offering amazing control, which isn't really helpful.

What have you all found to offer most approach spin? Price is not really a factor because he doesn't hit the ball far enough to lose balls, he wears one out after a 5+ rounds.

My daughter recently turned 8 and hits about the same distance - driver for her is around 140 to 150, she'll hit 6 iron from 100 yards and we have same problem of holding the greens

Balls we tried:

Wilson duo, Wilson duo spin, wilson urethane,Srixon soft feel (green box) and most recent we are trying is the Bridgestone Tour BXS - the Bridgestone does seem longer off driver and drives are more around 150 yards, but off all the balls i havent noticed much difference in spin. I too am looking for something that will check more. Bridgestone is the newest ball and with Shelter in Place haven't had much opportunity to try it out so the jury is still out on that.

We have played Wilson Duo, Callaway Super Soft, Callaway Chrome Soft, Srixon Q-Star, ProV1/ProV1X, E6 Soft and probably a couple others over the last 3-4 years. Best spin is generally with a urethane covered ball due to the material.

At that age its more about getting height then spin. With a 6i probably won't hold many greens unless she hits a very high ball. Which I've never seen from any younger kid. Biggest advantage of better balls is short game spin. The new RSX/XS are crazy short game spin, haven't tested enough on full shots but as they say pick a ball backwards.

Completely agree with this. Look at balls that will give him a higher trajectory. The new Bridgestones I am hearing are really good.

good advice - We have some of the XS - as soon as golf courses open again in CA we will get back to it

Ventura County courses opened yesterday. Rustic, Saticoy, Soule Park are all open with limitations.

edit: forgot where you were... probably the closest would be San Luis Obispo courses.

We are more in SF Bay Area. I know courses in Sacramento are open but that’s still pretty far for us. I hear the courses in Sacramento are packed and need to book two weeks out. I haven’t tried but what I have been told. I think we are just going to wait for this to shake out

I am glad we aren't in Cali. Kid goes to school in the morning. After lunch practices and plays 18 every day. In the evenings after dinner we are either fishing on the course or now and then practices different types of shots.
