Fujikura Motore Speeder vc 6.2x users, what have you moved into?

Curious in what you guys have moved into? Still in my bag at the moment (TS3) and has been for a couple of seasons off and on. I absolutely love the smooth feel, but it is at the top end of my ss. My wondering mind is always curious to what is out there. Really like that smooth feel with tightness at impact. Just seems to work with my transition, which is not aggressive.

Would love to hear what and why. Should be good dialogue...

Can't speak for X flex, but I use a 6.2 S and have not found a shaft I trust more. It's been replaced multiple times because of the same curiosity. Recently had an Atmos blue that performed pretty well but ended up coming back to the motore. It's just more consistent and it just feels best for my swing.

Currently have 3 of these shafts to fit various Callaway / TM drivers I have.

Yeah, I hear you. It's hard to replace the feel of this shaft for sure. The x does not feel like an x. It's not too stiff or boardy, just has a smooth tightness to it. I had the fairway wood version as well, but it was too much for me. Just curious if anything has this same feel but might be a tad easier to load.

Thanks @03trdblack Have not hit the black yet. Hit the blue for both fairways and driver. Was great as a fairway option.

I've got the Atmos Black and really like it a lot but never had a VC 6.2 to compare it to. The Black is much stiffer feeling overall than the Atmos Blue for sure but doesn't feel harsh. Has more of a one piece feel and less loading/unloading feeling to it.

Figured it would be. I really like blue board style shafts for my 3 wood. Helps me with my tempo. With driver I definitely go at it much harder and try to get what I can. I’m not long by today’s standards so I’m in between stiff and x. If I go x I don’t like it to be boardy. On the other hand, some stiff shafts I can feel the load too much and I start to block it right.

Thanks @drvrwdge I’m curious about the new tensei range and how it may or may not compare to the speeder. Either blue in x or white in stiff, maybe tip the white a little.

Have you also played the 6.2 motore speeder to compare to the Ventus?

I’m still playing the 6.2 x-flex in my driver, and the 6.3 x-flex in my 3-wood. Haven’t found a shaft that feels better for me either.

Sorry didnt notice it wasnt the TS Speeder. Id probably go Ventus Blue or Tensei Blue then or you may want to give the new Motore F1 or F3 a shot.

@mylesb21 no, I have not hit them side by side yet. Only on separate occasions testing some heads last summer. Have not hit the ventus since.

Agree. I was just fitted into the Black for my new SIM and your description is spot on (7s version). With my smooth swing/transition it matched up really well.

The Motore .2 shafts were interesting, and super popular for a reason. I've called them a "Super Blueboard" before, which I still think is fairly accurate. They have a higher balance point, very stiff butt section, and a more linear loss in stiffness towards the mid section that makes them tighter than your average "Blue" profile. The tip section also flattens out and maintains more stiffness which again makes them tighter, so its basically a really beefed up Blue profile.

All the Atmos shafts (Black, Blue, Red) are based on this shape actually, like they took the characteristics of the Motore .2 and split it in two three different shafts. The Black is the stiffest and most similar, the Blue is the most linear and "smooth", and the Red has the highest balance point and stiffest butt section. Other shafts that share similar characteristics are the Aldila Rogue Silver and White shafts (TX flex), with the White TX being the stiffest overall. The Evenflow Black and Blue are similar options with a smoother design and the Fuji Speeder Evolution IV is extremely similar as well.

Wow @Valtiel This is super helpful and explains a lot. Curious, what are the differences between atmos black and blue and speeder Evo IV? I’ve never hit the Evo IV but have hit both atmos. I remember the blue being super easy to load in a fairway.
Would love to test black stiff, blue x and Evo IV.

I'm glad that was helpful! The Atmos Black is like a more stout version of the Speeder IV. Based on the EI curves below, we can see that the Atmos Black hangs on to more stiffness through the mid and tip sections but with the same overall "shape" Ths Speeder IV would feel a little softer in that area and aggressive swingers would likely feel a good bit more load when compared to the Black:

The Atmos Blue is like the Black with the bumps smoothed out, which is why it probably felt nice in a fairway to you:

The Motore .2 sits a bit in the middle, with the big difference being the increased butt stiffness:

And to put an image to the "Super Blueboard" comment, here is the Motore .2 compared to the Diamana BF which is a pretty classic Blue profile.

The highlighted areas on the Motore there are where the "Super" bit comes from. More stiffness in those areas creates more stability, but the very linear nature (straighter line) is what some people feel as "smooth". Smoothness can come from a number of different areas in a shaft's design (bend profile, materials, torque, hoop strength), which is why it can be really valuable for quicker swingers to figure out the "why". I hope that is helpful!

Reason I’m asking is I’m a “tweener” when it comes to shafts. I’m on the edge of stiff and x. I prefer x that is not boardy in a driver as my transition is deliberate. I’m definitely not an aggressive swinger. Love smooth feeling shafts with stability. I live by tempo with my swing. Big fan of the s+ blueboard in my fairway that is tipped an 1”, which helps bridge the gap of not being too soft. It’s hard for me to find the right feel most of the time.

I totally get what you mean. It is pretty common for people that like the Blue type of profile to prefer a more stable iteration of that in their driver. Take Justin Thomas for example, which actually leads me to suggesting the Diamana ZF which is supposed to be a beefed up Blueboard as well. Also just for giggles, keep an eye out for the third generation Diamana W-series as well. Even though it fit in to the low launch "White" slot in the lineup, it actually has a profile extremely similar to the Motore .2, which was a really big departure for Mitsubishi. They can often be had for cheap (as an example, there is a 60x Driver shaft on eBay for $90 right now) and are still very much a premium made in Japan product. Danny Willett had those in all his woods when he won the Masters.
