OP, if you continue to sell here, this will happen to you many times(I have had the exact same thing happen with a very high profile member with a lot of positive feedback). Just don't mark your items pending/sold until you have the cash.

I'm a bit torn on the feedback issue here. It seems by what a couple of people have quoted out of the rules that feedback is not to be left if no money (and it should be goods also, for instances of trades) has changed hands. But to me there is little difference between "deal" and "transaction". I believe technically by law, offer and acceptance constitutes a binding agreement (I know there are attorneys on here if that is incorrect).

We see a lot of threads about someone uttering the "I'll take it phrase", never to be heard from again. Maybe if we could leave feedback in those cases and sellers were aware of the behavior of some of these buyers, there wouldn't be a need for as many threads dealing with the issue. I haven't sold on ebay for a while, can sellers absolutely not leave negative feedback for buyers, or can they for non-paying winners?

Tough call, I really don't know the correct answer. But it certainly is frustrating. Welcome to the club OP.

It is very frustrating to have somebody say I will take it and then bail without telling you. But the seller has a hand in this too - he doesn't have to "hold" the item to wait on Paypal. The precedent has been set saying no feedback is to be given if there is no transaction, and I agree. I think many people think this is just as bad as a seller taking money and then never sending the item. It isn't even the same ballpark! Some people stand by their words, some don't. Nobody was really harmed here, just inconvenienced. Just add the guy to your block list and move on.

Yeah its frustrating but I mean what does it really matter if we know if the buyer is a flake or not. All you have to do to avoid it is put "First to Paypal gets the item" and that takes care of that

+1. using the "first to paypal" system automatically eliminates the "should I leave feedback" question because it would be a moot point.

Thanks for the quick replies, guys.

Question: can I close this ad and then start a new ad, or do I just have to let it linger on page 5?

Also, would you leave negative feedback in this situation?
No way should negative feedback be left. You cant close your ad because you would have to wait 30 days to relist the items. You can however pay to have it pinned to page 1
why shouldn't a negative feedback be left? a flake is a flake.

because feedback is only for when goods or money changes hands......

this isn't an opinion

As stated 100000000000000 times before on this thread and similar threads you CAN'T leave feedback if no money exchanged hands.

Agreed. I'm new to the forum but it seems disappointing that this issue is so prevalent, especially when there is an easy fix. Simply by allowing negative feedback in situations like this would greatly reduce the occurrence of this happening.

It doesn't make sense to only allow people to accrue positive feedback.
