Overrated- Nike, without tiger they sell nothing

Underrated- Bridgestone- awesome line of balls, and J36 Irons

Not true. Nike annouced in December that they had record sales in 2008 and after Taylormade and Titliest they sold the most. Nike have got some very nice equipment and it should not be judged because The World #1 plays their equipment.

Overrated - Callaway and Taylormade (bar Taylormade's drivers)

Underrated - Ping and Mizuno

I think it's a little unfair how Mizuno get some stick saying "Mizuno only make good irons, and that's it" etc.. Not true. Their F60 woods are one of the best woods on the market. I tried them out on the range last week and I'm thinking of replacing my Nike SQ 3-wood which I've had for over 2 years. Also, their wedges and putters are sweet. As for Ping, everyone knows they make quality clubs - but yet, not as many pros are using their clubs as you would of thought.

Most Underrated: Clubs: Adams

Their stuff is excellent, and not over priced. And it's not seniors equipment only, as some have said. Their big on the Nationwide tour AND they sponsor "The Big Break".

Most underrated Ball: Srixon

Great performance and good price point. They have low spin balls "Soft Feel", and Hi-Performance balls like the Z-star.

Most Overrated Clubs: Scotty Cameron

Most Overrated Ball; Titleist ProV Not because they're bad... I just think they're "too much" ball for average golfers. So much better that they might actually hurt your score.

Anytime you have Tiger Woods endorsing a company chances are it's going to be "overrated." Is Nike equipment, strictly from a performance standpoint overrated compared to say, Callaway? Probably not but who knows........ it's an impossible thing to conclude. Everyone's different and everyone has different tastes.

As far as companies that make good stuff and don't get as much publicity...... for sure Bridgestone would be on my list, as wood Adams, and a few others.

Overrated? Tough question. Any of the big companies that get a lot of hype and attention could be considered overrated when comparing them with lessor known companies such as Bridgestone, Adams etc. I think all the golf companies out there today make a pretty good product. It's personal preference more than anything, id' say. Looks, name, sound, feel. On the whole though, if you're a good player, they'll all work pretty well for you.

Actually ya, i just read the guy's post above me............. I'd have to agree - Scotty Cameron is the most overrated. Massive massive following.......... cult-like and his putters, although nice, not realistically better than other top putter brands.

Most underrated Ball: Srixon

Great performance and good price point. They have low spin balls "Soft Feel", and Hi-Performance balls like the Z-star.

Agreed, superb post. :drinks:

I always used to indulge in a dozen Pro V1's for my 'tournament' balls because I used to get the impression they were the best balls around, but infact, they are incredibly overrated I feel. Srixion make the best balls by a long distance and they price them at a very, fair, price too. I've purchased 3 dozen Srixion AD333 yesterday for the price of what you'd pay for a dozen Pro V's. They're fantastic balls and I use them for both casual and practice play and for tournament play too.

OVERrated...(IMO! )

-) Titleist (Vokey's and PROv1's are not the END ALL people)

-) Nike (SO many people play Nike just to play Nike)

UNERrated...

-) Srixon

-) GEEK! (Mr. Almo has some SERIOUS drivers here)

-) Maltby (GREAT components, period.)

-) Any other overlooked component company! (SMT, Alpha, Wishon, etc.)

overrated : -

1) Nike, dont like the balls, dont like the drivers, dont like the irons. tried a unitzed putter in anser style i thought felt good but thats it. If tiger didnt use them nobody else would. Folk need to remember that guy could win majors playing left handed with hickory shafts. He's a genius, the clubs arent great.

2) cameron, he hasnt made an otr putter worth the money since the carbon newports he made in the classic range years ago. before you start arguing take a classic range newport or newport 2 , compare it against the current newport or newport 2 and tell me the current ones feel better. no chance.

Underrated : -

1) snake eyes blades. one of the best feeling blades ive tried. will be my next set.

2) pro v 1 x ~(before you sart flaming bear with me) . I fall for the marketing all the time, all the other balls out there, srixin z star, bridgestone b330 , they are both great. neither works like a pro v 1 x aroundthe green for me. i just bought a dozen of the 2009 version. its like i have an old friend back, i keep going back to it so i guess the under rating of it is a personal one on my part so im including it here.

Over - all game improvement irons

Under - golf balls -- I mean the relative importance they receive as a part of each individual's ability . . . I wonder if the right ball won't have a greater net impact than all the club ho'ing in the world. Don't know, but it IS fun to buy, sell and consider the infinite number of technical implications that clubs have offered for the last 30 years or so. Hey, without porn and golf, the internet woulda never got off the ground.

Most over rated=Ping,Callaway...even though i like the way they are changing trying to get the younger guys $$$

Most under rated= Components,Wilson,Adams or Nickent...and Nike because people act like that you have a atom bomb in your bag when you say you play nike or you just play Nike because you are on his nizzuts.i have been a die hard nike fan since day 1!......because Research and Development, fresh and new looking products....people really should stop being so closed minded about their equipment...just because it's new and they cant play with anything that isnt Taylormade,Titleist,Ping or Callaway emblazoned on it..thats not what this game is about.......shot by shot and skills.....i would take a custom set of the crappiest component heads and take all there mortgage $ of the guys with these $$ clubs..that even goes for my swooshes.but i like to much to get rid of em. :idhitit:

That is a ignorant statement considering there are 25,000+ members here......and you challenged all of us.....Nike makes a great club, but because of ignorant people like you they do not get credit for it!!!!!

you get your clubs from golfsmith and i will use all callaway equipment and i will smoke you. do not tell me componet clubs are just as good as callaway or anyother top manufacture

Go for it acraft........I am behind you!!!!!!! stupid comments on his part!

Lets not underrate componet clubs guys. I carry a set of Forged Hogan Apex Irons and an R7 driver. My fairway woods were getting long in the tooth and I am a fairly good long iron hitter so I don't take the fairway woods out of the bag that much.

I decided instead of plopping down $400.00 I would buy some snake-eyes Viper fairway woods blue ones with the removable swing weights like the R7 has (3 and 5) and damn it if they are not the best damn fairway woods I have hit in a long long time. I had a club making coupon and the heads were on a super sale I built them for $85.00 all in for both of them.

I just built my wife two of the square Mamba II fairway woods all in for $125.00 with coupons and such and they are really good as well.

Now while I wouldn't expect to be able to build Irons on the scale of my Apex's those fairway woods are a great bang for their buck and while some have snickered when I pulled them out of the bag it usually stops after I smack it dead straight 240 yards onto the green. Most consistent set of fairway woods I have ever owned. Maybe its just mental who knows.

Underrated -

Definitely Srixon, 506's are great irons and their balls are also better than pro v's, and can be had for much cheaper.

Overrated -

Scotty Cameron. I bought a Newport 2 and hated the feel of it, couldn't hit it straight. That went back on the 'bay pretty quickly after I got it.

Also, I agree with Nike being overrated - but I do like the Tour D balls, and their clothing and shoes are damn nice.

I don't really understand all the Nike Haters in here. I have hit pretty much every brand and like and dislike certain products. I feel that some may be overrated and some are underrated but the hatred towards Nike baffles me. I mean to call out their products as low quality with a body of professional work that proves otherwise seems odd. I've never liked Callaway and they've never played well for me but I wouldn't call them "Target Specials".

Callaway are nice but definitely overrated...price wise.

How can Nike be overrated when they are relatively cheap. Their putters are crap but they are dirt cheap....the best in their price range.

SC, overrated as a putter, underrated as a collectible. nothing comes close to SC as a golf collectible. Almost all golf items lose their value after a few years, SC increases in value!!!! plus they are actually nice

remember golf is part performance, part fashion. Many of the underrated clubs also happen to be some of the ugliest clubs around (Nickent, Adam, although Adams recently seems to have hired a non-engineer designer to design their stuff), Wilson..... Callaway almost followed them into the clown designs with Diablo , another underrated club cause of its stupid design.
