Anti-Pet-Peeves thread

time to get some good mojo going...
After reading through 3 pages of the (very interesting) "Golf Pet-Peeves" thread i thought it was time to shed some light on stuff that you are in crazy LOVE with in golf and everything about it. Call it Anti-Pet-Peeves.

Here's are some of mine and i guess everybody:

The feeling i get when hitting an absolutely PURE iron shot and hearing that "swoosh" when it takes off and then seeing the ball on the perfect trajectory; the shot i saw in my mind seconds earlier.

Thinking about that cool beer and shower that i'll have in a few minutes on a hot day walking down the 18th fairway after a good round.

I could write a long, long list if I wrote down everything I enjoy about the game, but right up the top would just be being outside, in a great setting, with my mates on a Saturday afternoon and having a good time with some friendly competition. Even bad golf is easily bearable - especially when I start to think about one of Laz's favourite things too. ;)

The one thing I most enjoy about golf is the new challenge it presents everytime I hit a shot. It is very good to challenge yourself in all aspects of life. Golf forces you to challenge yourself constantly. I love that feeling of accomplishment when you pull of whatever shot you may have been trying to hit. ;)

Love the feeling the night before playing a tourney or 36 holes.... The excitement factor is high.... Or better yet, getting ready for a golf trip with the boys! Knowing we have 6 days and tons of golf ahead of us.

Other than the obvious just getting to play at all, getting up at the crack of dawn and going out alone, being the first one off the tee on a summer morning, with the dew still on the grass, nothing but the chirping of the birds, the buzz of the mowers in the distance, the smell of the freshly cut grass, and having the entire course empty in front of you. Nothing like being alone with your thoughts and just playing. As pure as it gets.

I always love the looks I get when I make the turn and the groups waiting on the first tee are still rubbing the sleep out of their eyes and looking at their watches in disbelief.

Absolutely nutting a drive and knowing it's 50 yards past my playing partners before it lands.

Making a pressure putt (for a skin, win match, etc)

Playing with other players who respect the game and practice good etiquette

Opening up my new toys, ie golf clubs!!!

Pulling a difficult shot off

Smoking a great cigar

Playing golf, I have alot of pet peeves but any golf is WAY better than working!!! ;) :) :drinks:

Good thread by the way!!!

I love the feeling of walking a course late in the afternoon, while the sun is setting. ;)

That's a fun time too. I used to play 9 hole skins in the early evening on men's night. 8 or 10 of us would go back out, throw $10 each in the pot, and finish just before sunset. Lots of fun sitting around outside the proshop in the twilight BS-ing about all the shots we made (or missed). Good times.

I couldn't agree with you more, I do 18 almost every weekday before 8:30am, and there is nothing better than watching the sun get higher warm your face, and have the whole experience to yourself. I find it the most relaxing place, where nothign but the game is on my mind, i'm not thinkign about my next trade, or client problems, it's just me and the course.

I also like waiving to the grounds staff every morning, as they change the pin placement just before I hit my shot.

AMEN!!!!

As for the 3 hot chicks, how about playing with smokin hot twin models who were on some MTV show. Man were they hot! I have never been so nervous on a first hole! Maybe my first scramble when I was playing for a sponsor, that was a little nerve racking. But nothing like hitting after those girls. They were pretty decent golfers too. I did drive a par 4 that was 315 yards long, got a few high fives for that...and the hugs on the 18th green. oh man...I gotta stop reminicing about that at work.

Hole cut on a downslope.... kidding that was for the pet peeve thread

I love silent competition... getting paired up with a group or any group and trying to beat them.

High handicaps or people with no hadicaps hitting a miracle shot and then talking about forever smiling. --- that was soo me not 2 long ago

Best ball tourneys

Getting away from the family... kidding but Daddy golf time is nice.

Unsolicitated advice... I love hearing how people interpret the golf swing no matter the hdcp... who knows I could learn something new.

Skycaddie!

Just being outside and not in front of TV.

In order of happiness...

-playing with the wife

-making a birdie

-hitting a difficult recovery shot exactly like I wanted

-beating anyone at stroke play when I never could before

Now, I really think we should be posting about what others on the course do and not what just makes us happy in general. To me these are the true anti-pet-peeves. For me these are...

-someone from my own group helps out to find my ball if I am having trouble (and I don't need to ask)

-a person apologizes for their breach of etiquette (whatever the breach)

-being given a gimme at 4-6 feet away when already > 4 over par for the hole

I enjoy playing with strangers who are both friendly and polite (i.e., practice good golf etiquette) and enjoy playing for the fun of it. People like that give me faith in the human race.

Good call. Well said. ;)

Best golf moment for me was my junior club team travelling two and a half hours to a course we've never played on and winning 5-1/2. I remember I won my match on the last hole. 170 metre (sorry, no yards down here) par 3, hit a 3 iron to 8 feet and drained it.

I feel like I've got my karma back after posting in the pet-peeves thread.

hmmm... so many things

a well executed flop shot

a chip in

a long putt holed

a drive that is 285 plus down the middle, with a slight draw

a pured MIZUNO long iron...... yes it does have to be a MIZUNO ;)

the 35 yard pitch shot that one hops and stops right by the hole

the bunker shot that spins and dances all over the hole

....but these arent the things that i enjoy the most...

the sound of the birds and the dew covered fariways.....the warmth of the early morning sun....the 4 some of old golf buddies talking while having coffee on the veranda before they head out...as they have countless times over the years..

the college buddies jabbering on about school and last nights hooray.....

realizing that i am part of a larger group than just my foursome....that i am one of YOU guys....a golfer and that we all have this one thing in common, this one thing that has a death grip on us and will continue to bring us together weekend after weekend, round after round.... I think golf is more about bonding with fellow people than about shooting low scores or hitting great drives.

some of the things I love about this game but don't get to do that much anymore. When I was younger, I lived on a course, and I could go out and at 9 at night and play 3 holes until the moon comes up. Then I can sit there and put in the moonlight. Funny how many puts you make when you know the green in the dark.

Now I just love to play golf in the dusk, when most of the players have left the course for the day, being the last ones to finish your 36 th hole or more in the dark. Being the last one to leave. Nothing really better than that.

Pulling off the impossible up and down.

Nutting your driver - being able to feel the ball just fly off the face

Destroying your opponent (match play is more fun)

Sinking everything you look at ( within reason...err, not always ;) )

Puring a forged iron.

Knowing how good you can be, and then performing above that.

Getting to skip school for a golf tournament
