How do you explain all the junior, high school, collegiate golfers that could still kick your butt?
I am a college golfer so I know about kicking butt, I'm just saying it would be cool to use my ball during all parts of my practice not just short game
Using them pearls on the range for your long game ain't gonna lower that "4" from your signature.

I remember my dad kicking my a** in putt putt with an orange ball so many times that I insisted on using the orange ball. Guess what happened? He beat my a** with a yellow ball. It ain't the arrow, it's the indian.
yeah, 4's don't know THAT much about kicking butt… and people who do, don't have to let everyone else know.

Which is why i put myself as a 4. I can go out on any day and shot around par. Do i call myself a scratch golfer..... no because they shoot par or under on most rounds. I have played in tournaments where I am put down as a 2 or 1 and played heads up against guys who kept track of their handicap and one. I don't care what my handicap is just the number I shoot. The website asked me to put a number so I put a number.

Genuine question, not trolling, not particularly au fait with the US college system.

When you say 'college golfer' do you mean you play golf whilst being at college or you represent your college at golf?

If the latter then is it normal for players to not keep a handicap?

I am on the college team. An officially recognized program. I've never been a person to get wrapped up in numbers. They only cloud the mind

Intriguing.

I would have thought that would have precluded you from most if not all tournaments.

I certainly couldn't play any of the amateur stuff here or back in England without a recognised handicap

It's not about getting wrapped up in it, we use USGA system here rather than the CONGU, I much prefer CONGU to be honest but I submit my scores and use what it gives me. Only time I even pay it attention is stableford or nett matchplays at my club.

I'm sure the number is out there for me. My coaches most likely have it somewhere and if i needed it to play in a tourny I could get an official number but I am one that doesn't like to get wrapped up in numbers and scores I take it one day at a time. try and improve and lower my scores. Handicap is simply a number people flaunt around to tell how good they are.

It is a means of making people of vastly differing golfing ability be able to compete against each other, or at least it is among everyone I know and play with/against.
Yes if people use it for what it is meant to be used as. Many golfers I know don't play in any tournaments but keep it just so at the clubhouse they can brag about what they shoot. I would like this blog to go back to the intended discussion. I am sorry but If you have a post about something that doesn't pertain to this please keep it to yourself. In general to everyone not you dxbrobbo

You aren't being attacked. People disagree with you and frankly some of your story just doesn't match up with regards to your personal story (handicap, not knowing your handicap, what you shoot). The reason it is being brought up is you decided to make the comment, "I know something about kicking butt, I'm a college golfer". If your mind is as soft as you allow it to be portrayed here you have much to learn.

Now we can all leave "your" thread. I hope you find someone on here that agrees with your ridiculous idea about range balls so it will pump up your self worth for the day. In closing, I'd advise you not to seek validation for your ideas and pose them as questions that are looking for information and you won't have people "attacking" you any longer.

I respect peoples opinions on this website if they have to do with the thread. Talking about my score and my handicap or if I really play college golf has nothing to do with what I write about. Check any of my other stuff I never have a problem with someone who has a difference in opinion. So please stop commenting

I am a college golfer. I shoot almost par every time 72-76 on average. I've never done a handicap and I probably never will. It means nothing at all. So leave the thread alone all you have posted is negative stuff.

I guess I've been forbidden to chime in from here on out unless I'm blowing sunshine out of my butt with positive concurrence with what is being said… I'll be over here in the corner until I find something besides what everyone else is saying, that I agree with but you deem negativity, is said.

Ah, all this "college golfer" talk really brings back fond memories of my days on the Millard Fillmore School of Industrial Arts and Barber College team. Good old MFSIA&BC; we weren't the greatest golf team, and budget constraints forced us to practice with hand-sewn horse-hide balls stuffed with old socks that our moms made for us, but we had grit, by God!
