Stripped TaylorMade Adapter Screw

Well yesterday I was trying to change the loft on my R1 and I guess I tightened the screw too tight last time. I actually snapped the tool once I tried to loosen it, and thus, the screw head is now stripped. Is the best thing to do just to tap the screw to get it out? I don't want to damage my club or shaft. Thanks!

Tough situation. First thing I would try is drill a hole in the center of the screw and use a [url="http://golfworks.com/product.asp?pn=35P5"]screw extractor[/url] to try to back it out. If that doesn't work, remove the head from the screw and slid the clubhead off. Then replace with an entire sleeve and new screw.

Let me start by asking how "handy" are you? This would be the first question I would ask myself before tackling something like this versus taking to a clubmaker.

I'm rather handy. I have backed out screws before. Something I wouldn't think a clubmaker would be any better at than I am.

I stripped the weight screw in my jetspeed. Will those extractors work to remove it also? Or is there another way to remove the stripped weight?

It might, but use a torch to heat up the weight a little first. Those were not intended to be user replaceable so are put on a lot tighter by the factory and they might even use something like locktite to keep it from coming loose.

It might not be worth buying one if you are just going to use it once. If that's so, take to a club builder.

Take the head off the top of the screw (drill). The adaptor and shaft should come apart from the club head. The screw should come right out without any pressure on it. Get a new screw.

I'm the same way, which is why I asked. I would try a grab-it or similar device first And if that didn't work, carefully try and drill the screw head off.
