How is this any different then rooting against say your rival of your favorite football, baseball or basketball team? We all love our sports but some of us have teams/people we do not want to see win. Bubba is an amazing golfer but I don't like him. Do you think Packers fans are rooting for the Bears each week? Bruins fans pulling for the Canadiens? Yanks fans pulling for the Red Sox? No, they want to see them lose.

The difference, to me, is the gloating. Then again I'm not part if MLBWRX or NHLWRX or NFLWRX so maybe i just see those threads. The difference is we sit here and talk how golf is this sport that's about honor and integrity etc.

Bubba reminds me of Duval. He can be a #1 player type, but his personality just won't let it happen. He just can't handle the scrutiny, the attention, the fans, the autographs, etc. He can game the ball, but can't deal with the rest of the package to live that life.

My guess is that came after a chat with his accountant -- tax expenditures are a wonderful thing! Hey easy come easy go. A lot of abused wives stick around too, btw -- especially those with rich husbands.

Now if we look at all of the people in the history of the world, professional golfers on the PGA Tour have got to be in the 99.99999 percentile of life awesomeness; they don't get to have bad days in front of all of the fans. Christ Nelson Mandela didn't whine as much as bubba!


Just looked up the donation and Ping donated that money, not bubba! I'm a huge fan of Ping, btw!

If you have watched the guy throughout his career he is obviously a rude person who blames his failings on outside agencies (the crowd, his caddie, the course, etc...). He is paid ungodly amounts of money when he wins. I have every right to root against him. Professional sports are paid for by us. If I don't like a team or individual, that's ok. I don't want the guy to die, or get sick, or starve, or even go broke. I just want him to miss cuts and that's ok. I like every other player more, so I would rather them make that money. That's not a bad thing. Not a disgrace to golf. That's just being a golf fan. I will root for the players that conduct themselves in a manner that I think is good for the game. It's easy to be gracious in victory, Bubba has shown who he is when things don't go his way.

Since his caddie wasn't a regular tour caddie it's probably not like he has other options that pay a high 6 figure salary. I would obviously take the verbal abuse and unnecessary blame for that kind of money. That doesn't make it ok.
