The Wager...

Hopefully this works, but for those who fear long courses, and I mean LONG courses... http://www.rtjgolf.com/theshoals/ You can enjoy looking at all the holes here with the yardages and tips. 8092 yards long... in the humid south. Please note #12 ... 700+ par 5, and there is a lake guarding the front of the green. :)
scorecard attached below (from their site, not my card.) I played the purple and orange the 2 times I played the Fighting' Joe course, and if the conditions weren't so soft I would have given the blacks a go just to say I did it. :)

You would love this course then PD, par 5's were driver, 3/5 wood, hybrid/long iron. Par 4's were driver, Fairway, or long iron if it was a good drive. I think the boys said it plays 7600 or 7900 from the tips.

Put it this way, when I played it last Wednesday from the white tees I shot a 77(+5) and I hit the ball better today lol. I might try it one more time and play super safety golf, I'm only 1 stroke outside the top 16. So of in play safe for pars and bogeys I may be able to sneak in. :)

Good stuff PD, overcoming the shanks is tough. Nice round sir.

Bick, PD is the technical data guy when it comes to clubs. I just keep trying things until I find something I like, trial and error style :)
My preferred yardage seems to be between 6200 - 6500 yards (depending on the topography). Anything longer feels like a chore.

Move back to the whites and see what you post Pigs. I'm certain the extended length has something to do with the inflated number. Although, 280 yard bombs off the tee are nothing to sneeze at.

While I'm mentioning distance. Yesterday there was a man in the Sim next to me who was carrying the ball 305 yards + in the air. Ball speeds were in the high 170 range. When he hit driver the screen shoot on my side of the sim bay. When my ball hits the screen the screen barely billows.
Me as well PD, anything over 6500/6600 and it starts to take the fun out of it. There is a guy who plays wednesday nights who used to be a long drive guy i guess, he regularly gets ball speeds in thr 170's/180's and carries over 300 most times. His swing is so loong, but it doesn't look like he swings THAT hard. Hes currently in 1st in this months tourny with a -3 on that long course lol. I completely nutted a couple last night and i think i got a ball speed of 155 max, but mostly 140/150, no wheres near those numbers lol

Craig's swing is very similar in appearance to that of the gent I watched. Long and fluid. Daly-esque,

Many moons ago I had a turn and backswing that was similar, now . . . not so much.

That doesn't count, it was 45'+ downhill, with the breeze, with a 46" super light driver. I saw the odd swing hit as high as 115 before I took 2" off of her. I still get it up around 110/112 the odd time but mostly around 104-109 according to the simulator. How accurate that is is still up for debate. Hopefully I won't have to play to many more simulated rounds and we can get back to real results, outdoors :)

I wonder how many of the distance claims are accurate anyways Pigs. At least you've got a screen shot to document your simulated moment.

So I'm a sucker for punishment I guess lol. I went over for a sim round this afternoon and ended up playing the tournament course again, I just couldn't help myself lol. Ended up with another score in the 90's(96) but I felt a lot better about it.

I hit the ball really well today with my irons today, I just didn't get to hit them much on this course. But I figured out a new address position for my irons(not sure what it's called, hands way forward, lots of shaft lean and spine tilting away from target with head behind the ball??) and it seems to have really improved my iron play. It doesn't seem to work as well with fairways and hybrids but more testing will determine for sure.

My putting is what really let me down today, I even had a 4 putt. If I had of had my normal 27-30 putts I would have maybe broke 90 lol. Oh well, I'm really done with the course this time, I swear :D

Getting your handicap all ready to sandbag the pants off of others once the ground thaws? :)

Played yesterday after 28 days off and a couple days hitting demo clubs without pain. The pain free play lasted 4 holes... oh well. 28 days off lost and time to start the clock again. On the plus side, 28 days away didn't lead to much of a loss with the irons (hit 6 of my 9 GIR's inside 10 feet) or the driver (still spraying the ball which annoys when used to 10-12/14 fairways hit and you end up with 6-8). Putter failed me as I only made 1 putt beyond 5 feet ... a 30+ footer for BOGEY. Ugh... back to the drawing board.

We are coming up on the beginning of Spring and nobody has buckled under the pressure. I find this to be both a good thing and at the same time it is almost like a CHA meeting (Club Ho'ing Anonymous). :)

Don't let this link become a bible or something that confuses you more that its worth.... but since you mentioned forward press and secondary spine tilt.... maybe a few crumbs in this will help you out (oot - LOL). The last 1/3 of this thing gets DEEP into some stuff I personally have read but wouldn't allow myself to get too bogged down in. The first 1/3 to 1/2 of it ain't all bad... you don't have to hit every mark exactly as written but it sure gets you in the ball park. All that 'stuff' you're talking about is in here.

There's some nice general guidelines buried in this thing for setup. Since the ball will be more out in front of your lead side (right for you) armpit area there won't be so much forward press - but with little short wedges where the ball tends to be more right in front of the sternum - then without even adjusting where the hands are there will naturally be a little more forward press. That's why you're finding it harder to add forward press to your longer clubs - they wont need much if any of it.

Here's the link - and be sure and keep it away from PD - he will kill me for talking golf technique going forward! LOL.

I have a bit of a strange question for all your snowbound people: Do you ever go to a miniature golf course with YOUR putter just to roll some balls for score? :)
I've been in a group where all four gents were carrying their 'flat sticks' on a miniature golf course. You've got to grind over those 2 footers when you're playing for a $1 a hole ; )

Gaucho,

Happy to see that you are on the mend. 4 holes of pain free golf is better than no holes of golf. Give it time.

How is everyone holding up these days?
I've pulled something in the small of my back and my elbows are tender again. I went three rounds without a hosel rocket and last night they reappeared when my back began to tighten.

To end on a few positives:

My 'new' club ruler just arrived.
My order for another CRU leather hybrid cover was finalized.
My Machine 'refurb' should be finished in the near future.

Things get serious when my wife and I hit the miniature course together. She once struck my 'man parts' on a back swing with a putter (unintentionally . . . I think : ). One of those lengthy (20 foot) putts that needs to be banked off a windmill.

At least in MMA, they give a warning for that kind of behavior. ;)

Hope the back feels better!

It's hilarious how serious golfers take their pu...ahem...miniaturized golf. My brother in law and I will get so into it but we haven't yet brought our real putters into the equation. Pride won't let us.
