from what I had research from putting together the clubs myself I found out that I shouldn't be chasing a certain type of Swingway but more of just having a consistent one. So I've never bought a swing weight scale I used a calculator online which from the reviews most people had said it was pretty accurate. According to that calculator I have my irons four through eight right at D2 D3 and my nine and pitching wedge is that D3 D4. I was very happy with these results as I did not have to go into the extra expense of tip weights or buying a swing weight scale. They feel very good and exactly how I wanted them to be progressively head heavier as I got lower. I also made sure I put my lighter grips after weighing them out on the shorter irons. Now I'm not saying my grips were significantly lighter but they were about a gram or two from the other grips.
The shafts or the nipping prototype ST in stiff.
Heads were Nike vapor pro combos four through pitching wedge
Grips were pure pro grips
And I built them to be about a quarter inch shorter then Nike standard measurement which I had to call the Nike custom department to ask how they measured ha ha
What's surprised me the most though was the fact that I put the shaft Straight in after trimming the butt and the swing weight came out to be around what I wanted. Whereas when I took out the DG pros there were tip weights in the lower irons in order to keep the Swingweight at Nikes D2.

Forever Changing at this point.......

[/quote]The online calculators are a rough estimate. You need head weight, balance point, and length of shaft from balance point. Also keep in mind that tip stiff shafts can read at a higher swing weight. The online calculator was 1-3 swing weights off on my measurements compared to an actual scale.

Quick question for those with 120, did you put the modus 120 pw shaft into your pw, or go with a wv shaft for that club? I play 3-9 and then a vokey 48, so not sure if I should stick with the modus or wv shaft for that club.

That may be, but they feel just fine for me which is most important. I decided after reaearching it that I shouldn't be chasing the Swingweight number that I wanted during my build and that as long as they were pretty clos to each other it would be fine. I also was able to measure all of which you pointed out. The hireko calculator takes into account of most and they are pretty good builders/club supply providers so I would hope that they designed a tool that was close.
I figured to build it and see how it feels then adjust if I needed lighter or heavier. Good thing was that they feel great and like I mentioned earlier they progressively feel more head heavy as the set progresses which I like.

I went with the x after so many people said they played soft and it is true they do. An x in the 120's (not the 130's and I doubt the 125's) plays to about the same as a s300 atleast for me. My ss was 90 with the 6 iron with a mid release and smoother tempo when I was fitted. I would say anyone playing a stiff flex should atleast consider the x flex. You still have that soft feel from Nippon but with a strong high penetrating flight. I could see with the DGs300's the ball seemed to fall out of the sky where the Nippon's keep going and going but land very soft on the green. My club fitter also said the s300's and the x flex are very close in cpm's but who knows.

Thanks for info , I play Tour S400 stiff now and I'm in that 80 to 90 range. And I like my tours but I'm getting up there in age and looking for something a little smoother, and I have the option on my new irons to use the 120s or tour DG pro and I believe those are flighted so both shafts would be new to me but I'm just looking for something that the dispersion is good and it's smooth

I have tour issue s400's in my wedges now and they are nowhere near as smooth as the nippons, dispersion isn't fair to measure as your talking wedges vs the rest of the irons but say 54* with s400 is no where near as nice as 51* with Modus 120. Flight is a touch higher with the modus but its not really apples to apples. I have not hit the DG Pro's but I will say this after the Nippon's I doubt I will ever hit DG Shafts again.

Wow thanks for that info, I'm struggling on the stiff or the X because even in my driver to Fairway to hybrids I play different stiffness I play regular shafts in my seven wood in my highbred and stiff shafts in my driver and then I'm playing the S400 in my irons. I've never gone down softer in an iron shaft, so I'm just wondering if I should go to the X or staying in the stiff to give me a little bit more flex. Very confusing not too many places where i am at have the Nippon. And when you're ordering new irons you want to get it right the first time

I would do it this way, if you are looking for something similar to the s400's I would guestimate an x flex hard stepped would be very close. If you want something just a touch softer x flex straight in, and if you want a 1/2 flex softer or so go x flex soft stepped. Depending on your set makeup and what length you play your irons you could order them one way and have them switched around and then just have to order an extra shaft. Make sense?

Agree with Gio...took a round to get used to the way the seem to load on even short chips and pitches, but the way the shaft 'moves' through the ball it is like it kicks on even the shorties! LOVE that feel, tells me I kept my hands ahead thru the ball, and really allowed the shaft to work. Full swings are silk and even when you go at it or take a bigger divot ,they just react and do the job so well.

I cannot stress how much of a CTAPER ho I was! For me, these are the only two shafts I can play, and the Modus is better for me overall by a wide margin. Never thought I would say that....ever.

Mine are from d4.5 - 7, std length 5 iron, then 3/8 increments so my short clubs are longer.

They will probably swing weight in the neighborhood of 2 pts heavier than the kbs at same length, or at least mine did.

The 120s is about the same as a dg r300 so if he is playing 5.5 which is close to s300 he would need an x or an x soft stepped, atleast that is my experiences with the modus 120's

I'll toss out 130R flex hard-stepped one time. I have seen 130S players use PX5.5 but they were a litte more on the aggressive side. For a smoother tempo, if you like the PX experience but want something better maybe the 130R hard-stepped.

Mark, Aren't the 130's generally suited for someone with a later release and the 120's a mid to early release? I am not saying he has a mid release but I know you have hit most of the Nippon shafts and have enjoyed your reviews.

Interesting talk about the flex. I have some modus 130s in stiff right now and not sure how I feel about them yet after only 1 session. I was fitted recently into Tour Vs and Modus 120 stiff, which I kind of questioned a little. 6i swing speed is 90 +/- a mph but very smooth. Everyone is saying to go up a flex in the 120 which I would've unquestionably done had it not been for the fitting. I play x100 in my Vr Pros and have no issue with them, even after being told they were wrong in the fitting. I've also played PX 5.5 previously and I hit those very high but loved the feel whereas most people hate PX.

I'm completely lost now lol.

In my opinion x100 = 120tx and 5.5= 120x soft stepped. You could go x straight in or hard stepped but that would be a personal preference. I think the 130's are on the opposite spectrum to the 120's as regards to going up and down a flex but I think x100's could be 130s straight in so it sounds like you have the right choice. I think tempo is probably more important than swing speed for determining flex but I could be wrong, just seems like tempo dictates more if you should be x or s.
