Whos good for refinishing

im just a poor poor college student. lol

I just bought a TP Mills from a garage sale for 20 bucks. I put great with it(had 25 putts the other day) but it is a little beat up. What would be my cheapest option for refinishing it. as you can see it has see its days. I plan on gaming it for a long time. . I just want to make her new. if refinishing is too expensive i will just wait. i just figured someone might know something i dont

Not sure if this will help you, but I exchanged emails with Kevin at Putterplating last year, and he was extremely helpful. I picked up a beater Studio Design 2.5 off of ebay two years ago, and was using it as a gamer, but wanted to have it restored. It has two significant dings on the heel (I assume the previous owner a.) never used a headcover and b.) used his putter to tear the aluminum siding off of his house), and while the Cameron Studio said they could handle it, they mentioned the possibility of a $50 upcharge for welding.

 

Anyway, I sent Kevin the pics below, and he said he could fix it with face milling and some sanding. The quote fell well, well, well under what the Cameron Studio cost, with a Satin finish and everything. Then I went on a TP Mills kick, and don't intend to use the Scotty anymore, so I never followed through with the order.

 

Still, drop him a line. I've never seen a single complaint on any golf board about his work, only high praise, and he was confident he could fix the disaster below.

Yet another vote for Kevin Colbert at putterplating.com. . .very very reasonable prices and he does tremendous work. I just recieved my first customized putter back from him, a Cameron Studio Stainless on which he removed the sight line, added a sight dot, and removed a few dings as well. . .all for a very reasonable price.

You can't go wrong with putterplating.com. I had two putters done recently and it was great.

I hate to be the voice of reason, but if you are poor college student you'd be better off selling that putter and buying a restored or better looked after one from eBay.

 

Or refinishing it yourself.

 

If you send it to Kevin at Putter Plating it is still going to cost at least $60. Most likely more. Plus shipping. Etc etc.

 

Yet there is no way that putter will be worth $80+ when you have finished.

 

You can buy a great one from eBay for under $50.

 

The cheapest way would be to to refinish it yourself. Search here for DIY refinishing tips, but it shouldn't be that hard to do a gun blue finish on it for under $15.

Inexpensive method........which IMO would be best for this putter.

 

Bottle of Super Blue or Plum Brown finish. Just follow the directions on the bottle and have a great finish for a little over $5.00. If you use the Plum Brown,you'll have to heat up the putter before applying the finish. Contact "opus_mh" if he doesn't see this thread for his thoughts. He's done quite a few refinish jobs on old TP putters.

sweet. well i contacted putterplating.com and got a quote on remilling the face. it was 45 bucks. not to bad. plum brown would look pretty sweet
