True Temper's new "AMT" Dynamic Gold iron shafts

So if you hard stepped your clubs they would put the 9i shaft in the PW, and the PW shaft in the 9 iron (normal as with every set) then they would ALSO put the 9 iron shaft in the 8iron (hard stepping)

BUT you ordered soft stepped - so they should be putting the 7 iron shaft in your 8, the 8 iron shaft in your 9, and the PW shaft remains the same (a 9 iron shaft). So in reality there should be 3 different step patterns in your 8, 9, PW in a soft-stepped set.

Whenever I built my own soft stepped sets, thats the outcome.

Since the 9 & PW shafts are the same, the step above is the 8 iron shaft and that is what goes in the 9/PW when softstepped.

Hard stepped...the 9/PW wedge (step below) shaft goes into the 8 iron.

Exactly what I said above. Hard stepped has the same PW, 9, 8 shaft. I was referring to SOFT STEPPED regarding what you made bold in my text :)

We agree.

Perhaps different shafts?

For the DG the 9, PW shafts get the 37" shaft standard.

In order to SS1x, one must go UP to the next shaft...the 37.5" (which happens to be the 8 iron shaft).

This is the way Titleist did mine and I believe that to be correct.

If one does not want the PW ss then it should be specified that the order is x - 9 ss1x; PW standard.

There really is no 'right' or 'wrong' way or "correctness" when it comes to this. They are both valid options. One way makes the relative change between stepped and unstepped the same for each shaft, the other gives a more consistent handling of stiffness through the shorter irons in the set.

In the large majority of cases it wont make any difference in the long run and most wouldn't be able to tell the difference between the two methods since the impact of stepping is least noticeable in the shortest irons (which is one of the main reason DG use the same shaft for the 9 and PW).

Typically in a soft step situation (ssx1):

PW keeps a 37" shaft (which is the traditional 9, PW, LW, SW shaft)

9 i gets the 8 iron 37.5" shaft

8 i gets the 7 iron 38" shaft

etc..

Others may do it differently but this is what I require from a OEM if I request ssx1. If I do it myself in my garage, this is what I do and have done for quite a while. I want the longer tip section by 1/2" to begin on my 9 iron, therefor I put the 8i shaft in at that point. Essentially the functional soft stepping begins at the numeric irons. A PW doesn't necessarily require the softening.

But I see what Birdie Bob is saying: The PW and the 9 get the 8i shaft because it's +.5" longer in the tip than the 2 brother clubs in the set, 9 & PW, which share a shaft...and it fits ladahl's issue

I did. There are no 2 or 3 irons in my bag.

3 eagles from using my 4 irons last season. No chance it's leaving simply based on the confidenceI have in it.

I was fit into standard X100 vs the AMT, numbers were close I just did not like the AMT in 6 to 9 iron. Has anyone tried putting a X100 AMT into a 3 and then X100 4-P?

I am wondering this same thing. I have 716 CBs 4-PW with standard S400 and I am wanting to get a TMB 3 iron, but not sure what shaft to get. I am leaning towards the AMT S400 since it is supposed to help get the ball in the air, but not sure if it will be too different than the rest of my irons.

Anybody like these more than std dynamic gold?

I do. I have been playing these since last Summer in a set of 714 CB's and then in a new set of AP2 716. I absolutely love them. So easy to swing and feel great. Balls flight is good and consistent. I have been a Project X guy for years and never really liked the standard DG. Once I hit the AMT's, I switched immediately.

To each their own, but these were easier to swing than the standard, gave me the feel of DG (and less harsh than PX) along with ability to flight them as I wish.

No, it was decided not to go to 36.5" after extensive testing. 37" is the shortest length.

I'm planning on getting the x100 but I was curious if the difference between the tour issue and the regular shafts that much to justify the cost of the up charge. Thanks in advance.

The entire idea behind the AMT is the 3gm weight difference between consecutive shafts. The TI shafts will maintain that weight delta better than the standard shaft. The TI shafts have a closer tolerance than standard.

So far, what I'm seeing on the Trackman, are better and more consistent numbers in the 5, 6 & 7 iron range. There's is no difference really for me in the 8, 9 & PW except I may have gained a yard or 2 but that's indoors, I won't know until I can get outside and test. Also, I had no problem reaching out to Will Peoples and getting mine. He absolutely hooked me up. I soft-stepped mine and when I asked him to send me 4-9 iron he said it was no problem. Very excited to get going with these!
