Tour AD DI quality?

Recommended Posts

A customer came into the shop today, wanting to put his new addi in his driver, but wanted spined aligned. Not something I personally believe in, but am always willing to help a customer out. Anyway when spining the club i noticed the club had like 7 spines. Normally its the one or two, i was in shock, I don't know if that is a design, or a flaw in the shaft. the shaft may have been fake, but i doubt it, this customer usually orders through golfwrx or another authorized dealer if he doesn't order through me. but my question is has anyone seen this too? Is it a design the graphite design wanted and if so whats the benefit? I can't imagine it being good, it would lead to some inconsistencies with the shaft, but wanted to see what the wrx community thought.

While I can't comment directly to your question I do have extensive experience with the ad di and ad bb. I've owned 6 or more di 7X's, 8X's, bb 8X's and P9003X.

I've had nothing less than stellar performance out of all them. Maybe it is fake?

The only flaw (and it's not really a flaw) is that the ad line is very tip sensitive. It takes time and effort to find the perfect amount of tipping but once you do, and the profile of the shaft fits you, they are in the best of the best category imo.

Don't take this the wrong way - but if it's not something you normally do, or at least do frequently, you might look at you methodology. I'm certainly no expert in finding spines but I do know that the clamping method and consistency is critical for proper FLO (which is the most common method for finding spines).

I do it a lot, at least 3 times a week, i was just saying that it wasn't something that i personally believe in. I have the most spherical ball bearings in the flo clamp method. Like i said most of them have one maybe two, but this one was just popping like crazy

I bought a New AD DI 6 S from TSG and I can say that these shafts play soft. The CPM in a 5" clamp are at 248 CPM which plays like a Regular flex. I am totally dissatisfied with the GD AD DI 6 Stiff shaft and pissed away my money thinking they were like any other manufacturer. This so called low spin shaft spins so high it's useless . GD needs to be a lot more transparent about the shaft specs. If the Stiff plays like everyone other manufacturers regular then fix that crap.

I understand that you're Salty Tzoid but I can't sympathise with you .
This situation could've been avoided had you gone for a fitting with an authorised GD dealer .
Your purchase was a gamble .
Shafts that aren't the appropriate flex for an individual are always going to have bad numbers .
The majority of manufacturers' products differ .
Sell it , take the loss and get fit for the shaft that's absolutely perfect for you .
Good luck .

According to this review the shafts have roughly ~99% radial consistency which is virtually spineless.

I have not but I'm sure it would be a better fit for me. Bill Macpherson from Pro Choice told me the Tour AD DI shaft frequency spec for the DI6-S is 265 cpm at 46” with a 201g head weight. We clamp the shaft with a 7” butt clamp.

The problem with this is according to my club fitter most everyone else in the industry uses a 5" Clamp and in a 5" this shaft comes in at 248 cpm ( The Low end of a Regular Flex ). I guess I do need a X-Stiff with this shaft but it's totally my fault for using the internet to assist in making a 250-300 dollar shaft purchase.

I wouldn't sweat it Bud .
We've all been there .
The only way to get the bag set up perfect is to experiment and try different combinations .

I tried these a few different times over the years. Great smooth feel, but dispersion was awful for me. Probably needed it tipped a certain amount but didn't take the time to figure it out.
