Sizewise, the iEs are fairly close to the i25s so in that regard any comparisons are pretty similar. AP1s are longer, wider, thicker topline, etc.

They are also more forgiving. But not by as much as you'd think given the size difference. Depening on how you interpret it, the AP1s may have a softer/more muted/mushier feel. Very similar distancewise.

I know this has been beaten to death, but for the ones that received their clubs already, how did you order the length per what you may have used to hit in older models? I am still confused on this topic.

Another question...when I was fitted before for the i20, I was put in Green Dot (+2.25 upright). The 5 iron lie after the change was 63. The difference between that lie and the stock i-e1 lie is 1.87. Should I err on the side of caution and go with Green (2.25), or am I better off going lower with Yellow (1.5)?

39 is actually a good deal. plenty of places charge more for i95 upgrades on pings.

I have always known ping to have decent prices than others. However, it seems (no proof) to be higher this time around.

you don't have to do anything different. ping adjusts color dot for both length and lie, not just lie. also stock i-e1 is blue dot, so green dot is only 1.5 up from stock in the ie1. in the i20, black dot was stock and thus green dot was 2.25 up from stock.

note tho that stock in the ie1 is +.25 in length so if you want your clubs exactly the same fit as before order then -.25 in length from previous and the same dot color and they will be the same length and lie. either way, color code stays the same.

[/quote]If your golf shop is charging you anymore than what PING charges for the upcharge, then you need to find a different golf shop. My old shop wanted to charge me $275 for a Diamana B Series shaft when the club company only charged them $175.

I ordered my i20s, i25s and iE1s at +1/4" from PING. With the changes, my iE1s are 1/4" longer than my i20s/i25s.

So far as I know, the dot system hasn't changed. It's just that they're shipping blue instead of black.

A couple of things: the iE1s are more expensive than previous models; the AUD has weakened significantly; and the prices at Drummond Golf are ridiculous. Now, 2 of those 3 things you can do very little about.

That is the confusing part. Is true "stock" (PING's website specs) the specs for what would normally be black dot and they just ship blue to the stores since (I assume) more people fit into blue than black?

I think I am just going to say screw it and go get fitted again. If I use the website fitting tool it keeps saying I should be a Red dot, which is WAY off from the green fitting I had a few years ago.

ping website specs for the iE1 are based on blue dot not black dot like previous irons. if you order black dot, your lies will be -.75 from the website specs. if you are green dot in the i25, you are also green dot in iE1. the dot system for fitting hasn't changed. ping has just decided to not have black dot be always stock anymore. but just because they changed their stock to blue dot, that doesn't affect your custom orders, they are still the same dot. its confusing to compare the spec numbers from i25 (black) to iE1 (blue) to max (yellow) now without some math unfortunately, however the flip side is that it is very simple if you already know what your dot you should fit into because that stays the same.

the i25 and s55 have a darker finish where the grooves are, why would the ie1 wear differently than those? not saying you are wrong as much as wondering what the difference is. ping has been making the groove area on face darker for a while now.

They won't wear differently, it's just that the coating wear will be more noticeable due to the color. Same thing as when the i20's were released. The coating was dark and tons of people complained about "face wear".
