If it isn't a high dollar private school you may have some kids with less income wanting to play. Would be great if you could show them they can hit the Thrift Stores and come away with a great set of clubs!

Good luck! Please let us know how it goes.

If you decide it's a good fit for you, and have a kid that wants to play but needs a little help, let me know. I may be able to put together a stand bag with 804os irons, 983e driver, and a Bobby Grace putter still in the plastic. I know they're not the latest and greatest, but all have brand new grips and I believe they're still playable. Don't know what shipping would be, but if it's too high I'd throw that in, too.

Again, good luck

Would love to get a persimmon in good shape for the kids to hit. If i get the job
Check yard sales and thrift stores. I just picked up a set(woods & irons) of Golden Bears for $10 with 5 extra clubs and a bag at a yard sale. Really good condition clubs to boot.

haven't updated in a while...

so first meeting i have with the kids one kid shows up with plastic still on clubs and bag had never played a lick other than driving range...
first week is a 9 hole match and i need all of the kids because 5 scores counted...felt bad but had to throw him to the wolves...shoots 122...yes 122 for 9...alot of them were whiffs. second match out i put him as exhibition because i only needed 4 scores shoots a 69 for 9 on a tough track...wednesday he up and shoots a 62 on a tougher treelined track, no score higher than an 8...a lot, like most of us, of his wasted shots are 40 yards in so last night on the way to practice i told him if we can eliminate just one of those shots per hole he is down to 53 like that and a light bulb went off in his head....needless to say we spent about an hour and a half on short game last night and about 60min of that on putting

Awesome.
Great to see a young golfer catch on fast.
Please do update us on all your players as you are able. I really enjoy hearing about them as they are who will be keeping the game alive next.

Also have a young lady on the team. Like the other guy had to throw her into the heat of battle. She was gone on vacation for two weeks during the beginning of practice. First time out put her in the 5 spot for an 18 hole match on a tough track for a newbie. She was a trooper and shot 160ish. Wednesday the match was on her "home" course she shot a 64 for nine that included a backwards between the legs shot to get out of the bushes. Didn't have the heart to tell her that should have been a penalty. She ripped a couple of drives that I got to watch and her mom and dad followed her. I honestly think she can get to the low 50s too by the end of the season. In Pennsylvania that would give her an outside shot at states.

Great job to land....I've been coaching jv high school boys golf for 6 years now and it's been amazing. We have a very big and strong program that we have two levels of golf and actually have to have tryouts and cuts....this year we had 35 boys tryout for 14 total spots....If you need any advice, help, or if you have any questions please feel free to ask.
Funny story about coaching (I have many) .... I am also a high school social studies teacher in my 20th year, at 43 I'm the young up and comer...many of my opposing coaches are well past teacher retirement...it's such a great gig that these guys have retired from teaching but just could not give up their coaching positions...
I have also coached varsity football in the past and I can say with confidence that golf offers just as many if not more "teaching" and "character development" opportunities...

Well here is the latest update. We had an 18 hole match last week where one of my kids broke 130 and I thought we were trending in the right direction. Tonight we had another tri-match. My top three shot 77,77,78. Yes. Three kids that broke 70 on a rural Pennsylvania high school golf team, this almost never happens. But I had to take a 132/4 for my final score.

Had our conference tournament tonight kids shot 78, #2 shot 90 something, #3 shot 80 and my girl Lilly stepped up with 121. The conditions were tough cold and raining off and on. We finished third only 4 shots out of 2nd. The number 3 guy quit trying really on the back 9, if he would have shot his regular low to mid 80 we could have taken it. Well something to look forward to for districts.

Congrats. Too late for this year, but I know one thing my old HS coach did was have us all chart not only score but fairways, GIR, chips, putts, and penalties for every round. He plugged these into an excel sheet and gave us printouts that we were able to use to understand where we were losing strokes and for him to better tailor practice time. Good luck

Had our last 18 hole match on a pretty tough track on Thursday. The green complexes are tremendously harder than our home course. 1,2, &3 played ok. My girl came to me before the match and said if I break 120 tonight will you buy me dinner. I said sure. So her last hole was a tough par 3. When she putted out I asked her if she did it and she didn't know. As she added it up she looked at me and said I did it 117. The course we were playing was a good 8 shots harder for her. If we play good at districts we actually have a shot at winning
