$2600 garage simulator build (and updates on using it for my game)

Has anyone who has set up one of these systems in their garage had any trouble with humidity or temp changes causing any kind of tech problems. I wasn't sure how fragile the systems are.

 

I have my simulator in a detached insulated garage in Minnesota. I use the dynaglow 360 propane heater from home depot. Just turn it on 10 minutes prior and heats up to 70degrees within 15 minutes. I leave the projector and pc+monitor in garage. bring skytrak inside when done. computer has no problems booting up. usually turn on projector when i get back after it heats up along with bringing the skytrak. My skytrak with FMJ has no problems with any readings and has a 3 sec delay on tgc. skytrak range with probably 2 secs. I've noticed the main thing to have correct is both the skytrak and mat u hit from where the red dot is needs to be the same height and leveled to have no misreads.

From what I have read, lower temps can cause longer delays with SkyTrak's lag time from swing to shot.

 

I find that difficult to believe. Unless we're talking low on the Kelvin scale...

Edit - couldn't find it on a quick search. May have been Ottowa golf too. I know I didn't dream it up lol, but I also have no way to test myself since I don't have a ST yet.

Anyone else having left misses the first couple times you used your skytrak? my normal miss is a fade and all of my shots, even shots that feel awesome and perfect are all going left. I've checked the alignment multiple times and it appears to be straight. Also, even when i try to cut a shot the ball will barely go straight.

 

Thoughts?

 

I haven't had that issue with mine. My normal shot is a draw with the occasional block to the right. I'm just leveling with the bubble and lining the skytrak parallel to my target line best I can (eyeballing it). So far everything seems pretty spot on.

 

 

I had to stop leveling mine to my bubble. I use the software level and that has fixed that for me.

How do you do this software level? I'm running on my iPad. Also, anyone know how to make the alignment dots come on? I've just been eyeballing the setup so far. It's working fine, but sometimes I wonder if I'm on or off alignment.

The only reason for shot delays would be the wifi if everything is connected correctly. Nothing to do with temperatures. I've hit balls in way colder temps than that. The only thing would be issues with ball compression in cold weather.

I feel like mevo is a different type of product. Not really simulation but a good practice product and very affordable

Very interested in the Mevo too. This is the first I am hearing of it however. Looks like a great range tool.

I used the Net return and iPad on a stand that I had built.

 

I sold it this week. I find the distances not to be any good since last update I had done. My 7 iron which is 168 on trackman was 155 on skytrak. Hopefully they will fix this issue or I maybe missed an update.

I just saw the release today as well. I can't help but think its a slimmed down Xi unit and they just software limit it to only have it output the limited data (just like the Xi). So if its just as accurate as the Xi at $500 its a huge deal and will sink the value of my Xi+ like a rock lol

It's not close to the xi+ and doesn't measure nearly what the xi did. Mevo is good at what it does and a great practice tool but it wouldn't replace a launch monitor

Yeah I wonder if it requires stickers for outdoor use as well to get spin. If that is the case then it may be a completely different (less powerful) radar unit that doesnt track the entire ballflight.

SSR are precise and run around $100, though you may wish to "calibrate" them for accuracy against an HMT. Once you do that you should be golden.

I found this exact result with ST as well. Could never get the distances aligned to what I've been seeing as my on course numbers. Ultimately returned it and went with a used FS X1 and it was a great outcome (for my preferences).

 

That said, I do think ST is going to get there (and likely has made significant advancements) and the indoor user is only going to benefit with more competition at their price point. Long term, this is going to mirror the home theater price compression, particularly in the projector space, where we now have outstanding options sub $1,000. Ten years ago, you needed to spend double or triple that to get anything worth watching.

I've been loving my ST these past 2 weeks. Granted I don't swing as fast as many of you, so my readings have been spot on. Average ball speed with driver is around 138 which is what I get on a gc2. 7 iron around 152 carry. I'm thinking the ST isn't as accurate with higher ball speeds?

I thought ST only measures ball speed and based on a fixed smash factor, compute the club head speed from there. Your data with varying BS and CHS would say otherwise. I am confused.

I'm not sure what you mean - ST measures the ball not the club. Club head speed you really shouldn't even pay attention to. I'm pure talking ball speed and distances. It's accurate within a couple yards. I'm not sure what you mean by varying ball speed numbers. ST might be a couple yards light on distance but all in all pretty accurate. But don't even pay attention to CHS.

One of the creators/developers of ST has said that there is other things in the club speed calculation besides ball speed. I believe club selected, launch, spin, spin axis along with ball speed are used.

 

I imagine a very well struck shot wouldn't have a -20* spin axis...thinking along those lines.

I don't think club selection has anything to do with it...sometimes I select clubs and sometimes I don't. Shots numbers are the same.

I wish I had room for an indoor hitting area / launch monitor they look so nice.
