PXG 0317 Hybrid

So I have finally had the chance to get my PXG hybrid dialed in and into play enough times to put together a nice review. I have the 19 degree 0317 (current gamer is a Titleist 915 Hd 20.5) same shaft used for review.

 

Lets start with looks. Very clean lines on these hybrids, classic hybrid sizing, great face depth and the matte black finish gives the club a great profile. The feel of the PXG is not what you would expect, the hybrid has a great "solid" feel to them. Those of you who have played a hot melted product in the past can relate to this "solid" feel a bit better. No tinny or hollow feel to these, a great dense feel whilst providing a fast face feel. I have not always been in favor of hybrids because I have always had an issue with turf interaction when it comes to hybrids but I found the PXG to really provide great playability from tight fairway lies as well as roughs and bunkers, very versatile. I am able to hit this high, low, both left to right and right to left with ease. I took about 3-4 range sessions and a few rounds to get the weights set to my comfort level but I will now have them set where they need to be and really am liking this quite a bit. Will continue to update this post as time goes by, would love to hear what others have to say about the hybrids!

Have you found that moving the weights actually affects the ball flight?

Oh yeah, the silver weights are quite dense... I like to think of them as pieces of lead tape that don't leave residue!

But i do like the look of their woods. They look like mean custom pings. And the screws are simple way to move weight around.

What flex and how much, and what kind of shape are they in?

Xflex fuji pro standard shafts 1/2" short. I also have a Tensei blue shaft for the 22 in standard length in x flex. They are in great shape with heavy and light weights for all the ports. Headcovers as well. Solid hybrids but too upright for me. I play everything around 3 degrees flat.

You can switch the heavier weights to promote a fade or draw. I think the weights in the middle with less weight should add MOI since they are furthest back, launch, and weight for balance.

Don't think there is a stock shaft option. The dealers are custom fitters. I don't know PXG's selection.

 

I do know that self-fitting is not a good answer to your needs. Since they are the cost of a driver, I'd say don't take chances.

 

I like these hybrids - a slimmed down, more handsome XR in my book with better feel. What you get out of them depends on shaft. Would not have purchase two unless I really, really appreciated them and planned on keeping them ... forever. lol.

Damn good hybrid - but I've been changing my swing over the past year and went to a biggger, more forgiving hybrid until the swing begins to take. And I am changing shafts in this hybrid. 50g was too light. Need a 65-75g shaft. Putting in a GD AD HY this winter.

Just bought one in the classifieds forum and very interested to test. My 3 hybrid has been the one club in the bag that I just have not been happy with. Really have high hopes for the 0317

Finally found a shaft that works for me in these hybrids - the Tensei CK Pro Red 70 - play a 22 and 25. Feel is solid yet soft, launches well.
