What does the blackstone/ blackbear membership entail? I've heard of a decent number of guys doing it and a whole bunch of mixed reviews. I haven't played either course but definitely looks interesting.

 

CGC was insane, ate my lunch from the tips but so incredibly pure out there. I need more money haha!

Hoping some guys reading this thread can weigh in on Blackstone / Blackbear. I've played Blackstone a few times and am playing Blackbear for the first time on Monday. I called and asked to play to see if I want to officially join.

 

I guess they're running a promo thru the end of October where all golf memberships are only $2K initiation.

 

I'm a member at Blackstone/Black Bear. This is our 2nd year out there and we both love it. My wife really got into golf this year, she joined the women's 9 hole league, played in the CC and we even won the 2nd flight of the couple cc (she carried me).

 

There are good and bad with both places but all in all the positives outweigh the negative.

 

We're actually on a golf vacation now taking advantage of the Club Corp membership. We played Bear's best in Vegas and Indian Well CC in Palm Springs so far. We still have Mission Hills and the Omni. As a CC member we only pay cart fees. We're really tried to take advantage of the membership. We went to Scottsdale in March/April and play 3 courses (Seville, Anthem and Gainey ranch). We heading back there in Dec.

Agree. Out of the two courses I like BB the best. A couple of the holes on BS I find a bit quirky. We probably play 60% at BB.

 

If you join, you're really going to like the greens in the summer time. They were awesome! Fast and true.

 

They did a lot of bunker work this season and I think/thought they were supposed to upgrade the cart paths as well but haven't seen any action on that front. I wish they would find a better alternative for the putting green and chipping area. The range and practice area is much much better at Blackstone.

 

The MGA is pretty good too. Probably 2 or so events a month with a season long points race (Mobile Solutions Cup and Horserace) and a end of the season Pinnacle Cup (Ryder cup style event). You'll fit right in as there are good number of low single digit and a few +'s. Not all of them play the MGA but they are around.

Another fun fact about me: I haven't played a round of golf in the US outside of Colorado in 16 years. (This excludes the 1-3 rounds I play every summer in Sweden.)

 

That will change on Sunday morning when I take my clubs to San Diego. I wasn't able to get onto Torrey Pines, so I have a tee-time at 11:52am at Coronado Golf Course (elevation: 16 feet).

20 years ago, I was able to get onto Torrey Pines South with a resident rate ($25 back then!). At least I've played it, but tt was a time in my life where I had quit golf for a few years. It would've been nice to have played it again to see how my current game would fare. Coronado looks nice, though. I just wanted a golf course with an ocean view since, um, Colorado doesn't have that kind of landscape. :D

Had to drop in and say, I played Bear Dance on Monday. Price on the weekdays right now is $69 with cart and range, and there was no one there at all. Played with my boss and another work buddy so if you can escape for a weekday round, get down there and play while ya still can. We had a really nice day, wind picked up pretty good on the back 9 but not awful. I have to brag, it was my best round of the season. Shot 77 from the Blue/White combo tees. Birdied the bear claw hole, Driver-6 iron to 10 feet on the par 5 8th hole, drained the putt for eagle, and made another birdie on the back. 3 three putts for bogie were painful, especially since I was putting pretty well. Funny how your best rounds seem to still leave a few strokes out there. Get to Bear Dance fellas, still in amazing shape and a good deal right now.

Couple over. Really enjoyed the course tho. Thought it would be a boring old country club layout but didn't get that vibe from it.

 

Still plan on checking out The Pinery and Pradera.
