Planning a Golf Trip to Atlanta - best courses to play

Hey everyone. I'm planning a golf trip with my friend and we are looking into Atlanta. Not super familiar with the area and was wondering what courses are the best. Right now we are looking at Peachtree, East Lake and Atlanta Athletic Club. Thanks for your thoughts

Definitely play Peachtree and East Lake. Skip Atlanta Athletic Club for Piedmont Driving Club. However, depending on timing, Piedmont closes on May 18th for renovations. If that's not an option, go for Atlanta Country Club. The closer you can play ITP the better.

I would kill to play Peachtree. That should be at the top of your list in my opinion.

AAC Highlands will be closed this summer.

Definitely play Peachtree GC and East Lake.

If you have THOSE kinds of connections then definitely play Peachtree and East Lake but also find out if you can get on at Cherokee G&CC. It doesn't get much mention compared to P'tree, E Lake, and AAC but it's just as immaculate and almost just as private.

I enjoy Capital City too but agree it's 3rd behind Peachtree and EL.

Peachtree, East Lake, Ansley-Settindown are probably the top three that I would go for. Athletic Club is shutting down Highlands on Monday until October. I would also shoot for Atlanta Country Club as well.

I played Atlanta Country Club in late April. Highly recommend it. Maybe the best set of par 3s I've ever played.

Definitely Peachtree and East Lake. Peachtree is my favorite course inside the perimeter. I just played Piedmont Driving Club last week. Great course, but I think that they are closing down the back 9 next week for renovations. If you wanted to play 36 one day, you could do Capital City Crabapple and Hawks Ridge. They are a very close drive to each other and great courses.

Really, it's hard to beat the high-end private clubs in the Atlanta area. After Peachtree, you really can't go wrong with your choices that people have listed here. Athletic Club, East Lake, Piedmont, Settindown, Cherokee, Country Club, Druid Hills, either of the Capital City courses, etc. Peachtree is the one to play though. East Lake would be my #2. If you hold off until October when Athletic Club re-opens Highlands, I think the changes being made out there will improve that course from what it has become condition-wise and playability as well.

Once had a chance to play East Lake, but my boss at the time wouldn't let me take the time. Other than that I haven't had a sniff of any of these and now thinking this thread is very depressing!

The Driving Club is my personal favorite out of the above listed but you really can't go wrong. Try Lobster Bar or Pricci for dinner!

RTJ Grand National is only about an hour from Atlanta. Great tracks and quite reasonable for the quality.

The velocity of the vehicle driven will have a lot to do with how long it takes to get there.

There's that tricky time zone change too.

Peachtree is the best course I've ever played. Incredible experience. Walk. Such a fun walk.

Like others have said, atlanta athletic club is under renovations so they only have 18 holes with 800 golf members. It's a s*** show.

 

East lake is nice, but not that great.
