Terrible with Bushnell V4

I recently got a Bushnell Tour V4 Slope Edition laser and I am pretty terrible with it. I play courses north of Atlanta that have rolling hills and lots of trees.

I have a very hard time getting correct yardage with this thing. I have played two rounds with it aand only got the Jolt to come on a few times. I don't have shaky hands at all, but cannot get locked on to the flag. These flags do not have prism's either. Sometimes I get the tress behind the green or something in front. I had to keep relying on my gps app to get good yardage.

What am I doing wrong?

First off, make sure it is centered on the cross hairs. Look at a small target and rest it on a bench or similar and see if it is accurate that way. It could have been jarred or dropped and be off sighting wise. If that is accurate you just aren't steady enough.

When I have difficulty picking out the target (old V2) I will pick out a large object behind the target (hill, bunker, tree) so that I have a known. Now the flag has to be shorter than that distance. If it is windy I may steady my hand by resting it on my push cart or the side of a auto car. Other than that practice with it so that you find a way to hold it steady.

Replace the battery. It may be brand new but maybe the battery has discharged partially to the point where it's giving wrong yardages and waning out. It happens to my V3 when my battery is dying.

Also, try aiming directly at the flag itself, not just the pin. I find that works well. If the background is a shiny water of somesort, you're never going to get the pin. For whatever reason, when I play a coastal course, I can never get the pin that I'm facing if it's in front of water.

I think a lot of people have been experiencing issues with the V4. Mine does the same crap:

1) Jolts maybe once during a round

2) Different yardages each time you press the button

3) Will read some crazy yardage like 208 on a 120 yard shot

4) Or will flat refuse to pick up a target.

So far, I'm not very happy with it.

It's amazing how well some of the CS reps from the major brands hide in the shadows of these forums.

That's not a negative comment by any means, I actually respect that they take the time to peruse the forums and try to make sure their customers are happy.

Its hard for us to get better feedback then what we get here on GolfWRX. It's great to hear the good, and equally as important to hear the bad. I'm a big golfer myself and always enjoy reading about the new stuff.

Speaking of which my 2009 Medalist is still rocking along after so many years. Bushnell quality I guess.

I unfortunately dropped my V2 recently and now it makes a rattle sound when I lift it to sight the pin. Still seems to work Ok but that rattle is darn annoying!
