Successor to I-e1 (I-e2) due out soon? What is on your wish list?

Recommended Posts

Saw in the iBlade thread a reference by an individual that is often right on these things that a successor to Ping's I series may be out this January.

Seems a bit soon to me, but Ping has picked up the pace on their model refreshes.

What would you like to see?

I would like to banish the blue from the back?

More substantively, would like to have a smudge less offset in the 4 iron and down and a little thinner top line in the lower irons.

And moderate the outrageous pricing schedule of upgraded shafts.

Pretty sure the ie1 got released in mid July 2015 earliest, so Feb would seem very early.

Ok if they got released in July then maybe next July? I'm pretty sure ping wouldn't deviate from the 2 year cycle they are on with I line

I kind of hope that the quick release is part of transition to I and G products releasing in groups. No more S products is already established. I would like for them to stay on a 2 year cycle, but do something like even years new G lines come out. Woods, G max, and G irons. Then odd years new I lines and wedges. They just dropped prices on the wedges, so that could maybe be happening.

I have zero insider info, just taking stabs in the dark here. But I like the idea of the moving all the wedges and I lines to these very clean, no frills looks, and then having the G lines be the big, bold, and louder products. It's a bit off during the shift now, but it would give them 3 big releases a year.

Even years: G woods and Crossovers, G max/G irons, budget putters

Odd years: iBlades/iE irons, wedges, premium putters (ex: Vault line that just popped up)

This would give them a release cycle that allows them to feel like a faster life cycle because they'd be release product essentially every 4 months, but each of the existing lines would still live on a 2 year cycle.

February is correct. Ping rep was in late last week and said February will release.

Did he have anymore info? That is a really quick release and short cycle. Is February the tour seeding date or the time frame to release to retail?

I have to dig it up but Ping shortened their cycles. Only exception was the S series

Maybe the next iE irons will be called iCavity, iMid or iM-size to align it with the iBlades and the new glide wedges (iWedge)... :drag:

Whatever they do, I really like to see Ping doing so great in every club category and not 'killing' their releases in less than a year. I also agree that the clean lines of the Glide Wedges and the iBlades look stunning.

Have a great game.

The blue badging really doesn't bother me, but it would be nice to see less offset in the mid to long irons. I thought the short irons were fine, but it just looked like the offset progressed too much once you started to get to the long irons.

I'm still gaming i20's. Would like to upgrade to the new i-line eventually. Performance wise the i e1 seems like a winner. The only thing I would like is a cleaner look. If the i e1 looked like the iBlade, I would have already upgraded, I'm sure. I would like a clean color scheme either just black and white. If they add a color, they can make it yellow. Really though I just want them to make them look like the iBlade or Glide wedges for a nice simple look.

Agreed, that would be superb. Based on history, however, I don't think Ping has historically tied their S line to the i Line from an appearance standpoint.

I agree. I can't imagine they would make them look similar. I love the clean look of Mizunos or even the older AP2s. My only complaint about PING stuff is that it can get a little busy looking. I would assume they've done some research and determined what they're doing is best for sales though.

Anybody know if this will be an incremental design change, a la i20 to i25, or something more significant?

Things I would like to see Ping do with the iE irons to advance them a bit:

Forged face.

That's about it. Would love for them to get a forged line to compete with AP2 a bit more.

Not iron related but I would like to see the iE line to be expanded to include a more compact driving iron, smaller head fairway wood, and a 400CC driver that's low spin. Always likes the I-series more than the G-series.

It is a bit surprising PING hasn't offered a 430-440 cc driver in a little while. Not since the i25 if I recall. I wonder if they'll do a reboot of the PING Anser irons to come out with something that is for the forged purists who won't play a cast club (even though many of the forgings out there are not single piece forgings and the term "multi-piece forging" seems like a misnomer to me).

Hard to picture a scenario where a significant change would be made. After all, it's just metal and composite materials on the end of a shaft.

There is only so much you can do with it.

True. Was asking along the lines of a cup face or v sole or slots, for example, or something significantly different than they've done in the past vs. changing the color scheme and moving a few grams of weight around.
