I got some hogan speed slot woods today. 1,3,5 woods, I don't think I have ever actually hit a wooden driver or fairway wood until today. Lol. They are in fair condition but I only paid a buck for them. Lol.

If they are in good condition, then yes for sure! Not everyone is a stickler for matching serial numbers so finding a single club to finish and fit the set is not a big challenge.

Agree with CC. If they are in decent shape, a go at $50. A 5 iron fill will not be that difficult to find. They show up with some regularity on the Bay. May even stumble into one while out scrounging. Has happened twice for me. Seemingly easier to find long iron Redline fills than short irons.

 

Yes, '03 - '04 Apex's. They appear to be in great shape. Believe these to be the very last BH irons made before Cally acquired the assets. What amounted to buying the naming rights (i.e. Apex, Edge, etc.).

Liked the look of this iron model, but.. both Hogan and Spalding were on the way under the Callaway umbrella.

 

Doesn't matter what Ben Hogan wrote in "Power Golf", about equipment ..back in 1948..

 

In 2017, it remains a game of equipment numbers for everyone...Callaway, Taylor Made, Wilson, Mizuno,.even the new Ben Hogan Golf Company.

Was fishing around one of the other threads here and saw the PC irons listed with the option of Apex, Apex D, or Vector shafts. Wondering if anyone knows the differences between them and or if the shaft labels are different on the Apex models?

Here is the driver from the 1953 commemorative set I have (1, 3-5). These have the Legend 5 shaft (Apex 5). The 3 wood has an Apex 5 label. As you can see, the driver is in need of a replacement shaft. If anyone has an Apex 5 the don't need ....

I would love a Legend 5 to match the original but the chances of that are slim. The 3 wood has a Apex 5 label on it but has never been reshafted. I suspect it is a Legend 5 shaft but the original label peeled off or something. These are really terrific woods and I probably will never play them so an excellent Apex 5 driver shaft would work fine with me. I have a few Neumann calfskin grips/underlistings/grip caps so I can get this driver back to near original condition.

Got this 1 3 5 set at Goodwill today. Came with some odd graphite shafts that are apparently from Hireko.

 

Cursory research on which model they are has me stumped, as they are are lacking a decal on the top and in the speed slot. Is that a telltale sign of a refinish? They do seem to be in really good shape.

Am thinking those have been refinished. No disrespect to Hireko, but there's no way Hogan released those with Hireko branded shafts. Also, the top of the whipping looks like it has a little collar on it that I've not seen on Hogan woods. And it looks like the neck screw has been removed and the hole filled. Nice woods. And the refinish was probably necessitated by the re-shaft, so there's a decent chance that the rest of the club hasn't been tampered with too much.

I owned and gamed this set between 1992 and 1994. This was a terrific set of irons.

These came out in 1992. I gamed a set of these and got them the Spring of 1992.
