Birdie Ball or Big Moss putting green?

for those who have big moss how does the incline help or hurt practice. looking to practice short 8' putts that are straight in but not sure i want to practice uphill putts constantly. will this throw off sense of distance and speed come spring?

Β

I recently sold my Big Moss (country club version) as I really disliked the incline. I read this forum, listened to the pro's and con's, but just couldn't deal with the continual uphill putts. I don't think it really threw off my sense of distance control, but it made short putts unbearable for me as you would have to stand on the incline portion (foamed glued to the back of the carpet) - much too squishy and unnatural. If you want to practice the shorter putts, this is definitely something you'll have to deal with.

I have the Original; the slope doesn't bother me. Unless I'm practicing 2 footers I'm not standing on the slope at all. I pretty much focus on 4-7 footers with mine so it's not an issue at all. I'm assuming that the different models have different "lengths" of slope.

Big moss putting green is the best choice. I ordered a birdie ball and you get what you pay for. I returned it because it is nothing more than a pad of pool toy foam with holes cut in it. The big moss on the other hand, is a high quality green suited to all my indoor short game needs. The roll is pure and I never feel like I'm putting uphill since the roll is so good the ball projects to the hole. Plus, just call tony in the office and tell him you returned or are thinking of buying a birdie ball and he'all give you a discount! That's what he did for me...Great guy and great company!

Also, think about that Breed Birdie Path as a supplement to a larger chipping/putting green. It was a game changer for me last year from 7 ft & in. It really trained my eye & built my confidence in nailing all my short putts. Obviously I still miss here and there but my make percentage changed dramatically. I literally probably hit near 9of 10 on the course these days, no joke. I was maybe able to make 6/10 before hand. I'm a good player, hovering from 0-5 but last year I was down to 1 because I'd all the putts. I guess nothing substitutes for practice practice practice! BUT, I do believe the more realistic the green is the more you will get from it. So Just Buy big Moss

This is a Harley Davidson versus Metric Bike or Canon versus Nikon argument where you will find plenty on both sides of the fence. I've tried both and IMHO BB is an overpriced piece of foam and BM is a higher quality product. I bought a 6'x10' ' BM green and never regretted my decision.

1st, What the H*** is a Metric Bike? There is only one true motorcycle. :tomato:

Β

All jokes aside, I got a Big Moss 3x12 Competitor pro for Xmas. Wanted bigger but this is all the space I have so this is what I got. I love this thing. Even got my boys on it (7 and 2) over the weekend. We have little family putting competitions.

Β

The product itself is awesome and I have never used a BB, but I would never get one after getting the Big Moss. Everything I could hope for out of an indoor putting green. Seems to roll just a hair faster than I would have expected but I am thrilled with the performance.

I don't have a Birdie Ball and have never heard of it but I've had a Big Moss for about 10 years now and still love it.You have to have it on a hard surface to work right.I have an unfinished basement with some old carpeting. What I did was lay the Big Moss on top of it and cut the carpeting around it and laid it where the carpeting was that I cut out.Works great and it sits flush with the carpeting.Mine has two holes and is 4x12.Paid about $200 for it at the time and it's worth every penny.Mine came with a chipping mat.Works better if you vacuum it every so often.Myself I prefer that it has a slope to it.Hope this helps.

I got a birdie Ball on cyber Monday been using it almost every day since. Had the same dilemma between the two but the better deal prevailed. Mines on a carpet in the basement and works fine. I stayed away from the big moss because of the slope issue;had a much cheaper similar one and didn't like it. My only complaint about the BB is the holes are not very deep and of the 3 cups I got on my 4'x10' 1 has a small backstop. Feel like a lot of putts bounce out/roll out even though they aren't hammered in. Who knows when this one's done maybe I'll give the big moss a shot

Well the term "Japan Bike" or "Rice Rocket" are not politically correct. BTW: I have one of each.

I have both greens, a birdie ball and a big Moss. You can get more green in terms of size with the birdie ball over the big moss for the cost. I have a 4 by 14 foot birdie ball, and a 3 by 9 foot big moss and both cost around $150. I like both of the greens for what they offer and the birdieball is located downstairs on the concrete floor and the big moss is located upstairs on the carpeting. To me both are great putting greens and have fantastic roll on them. If you are putting it on a carpet the big boss would probably be better, if you are putting it on a hard surface I would probably go with the birdie ball because you can get more green for the dollar.

Sorry for the delay in replying but it was during the holidays a year ago they had a special going on. I would be surprised if you can't find a similar deal on the internet somewhere.

I've never tired Big Moss but have had a BirdieBall for some time. This company is legit with great customer service. Back when I bought in 2012, they included a dozen birdie balls, shims, and a ton of extra accessories - it's too bad they do not do this anymore! Like Hybrid25 said, if you search promo codes on the internet, you can get a good deal on this; + free shipping!

Β

Anyhow, the roll is great, easy to roll up, and can even build you own platform and use Robocup for great practice. I did so myself and love having it; I'll pose a picture as well if anyone has anymore questions about it.

Big Moss still provides some nice accessories. I bought my mom one for Christmas and it came with a chipping mat, practice balls, backstop, foam to add multiple breaks and a flag.

I just bought a Big Moss because no one can ever agree in this discussion. Birdie Ball is just foam from the research I did. So I bought the Big Moss 10' and love it! It's sturdy and can be rolled up. It has a little grain, faster one way than the other. Small break at each end. I like the cup insert making the hole very small and use it that way.

I ended up getting a BB, and also 4'X14'. They had a 10% promo going, and if you put "upgrade" at check-out, you got an extra 2' in length for free. So, ordered 4'X12', "upgrade", got 4'X14'.

A friend of mine complained about the sound quality in their promo vids, and they gave him a 10% code. It can't be hard to get 10% off their regular price. Probably if you called them they would give a discount.

Petrochemical foam costs nothing to make so you giving you two extra feet at no charge or an additional 10% off doesn't have any impact on their profit margins. Hell, you should probably ask for 20% off!

Β

You are probably right, but it makes their customers feel better paying $134 for a 14'X4' green than $170 for a 12'X4' green.

Reviving the dead but it looks like that both companies are offering 20% off. What say ye, Birdie Ball or Big Moss. I have kids and dogs so durability is a must, even though they shouldn't be on it.
