Difference between KBS Tour shafts and KBS Tour V shafts

My2Dogs

Recommended Posts

I'm not a tech guy so I'm hoping some of the WRX folks could help me out.

I was playing the 2014 Alex Pro's with the KBS Tour V shafts. Loved the feel, launch, everything. On a whim I saw a BST add for a new set of 2016 Apex Pro's but they have the PX LZ shafts.

Now the feel is nice but I spin them too much and the hit them higher. I'm actually 1/2 to sometimes a full club shorter. I was going to go to GG and just have the swap out the shafts but then I started looking through some of my old sets. I also used to play the KBS Tour shafts as well.

Can someone tell me the difference between the KBS Tour and KBS Tour V shafts?

Thanks in advance.

I found the Tour V to spin slightly less, fly lower and feel a bit stiffer to flex compared to the KBS tour. Very nice shaft though.

Tour V launches the same as the Tour with just a little less spin. I have had them for a few months in my AP2's and think the tip is a little too active at times and I loose the ball high.

OP - before you go to the expense of pulling and swapping the shafts, have the lofts checked on each set. Even though it is probably the shaft difference (you didn't say which LZ you have) I would just have them double check this first.

Others summed it up well, 10 grams or so lighter, slightly less spin. Both are great shafts, though my preference having both is the Tour V.

Thanks everyone. I have the PX LZ 6.0 shafts.

I did have the lofts checked when I purchased them a few months ago. I had the 2014 Alex Pro's bent a little weaker than the standard lofts they came in and a little more flat. So when I got the 2016 Apex Pro's I made certain they matched the spec's that my I had my 2014 Apex Pro's bent to. So both play at the same lofts and lie angles. So I think that the PX LZ are just not fit for me or my swing. The 2016 Apex Pro heads feel so buttery and I love it when I hit the ball perfectly. However I have been having a problem that I didn't connect with the PX LZ's until I read about the PX LZ's having more spin. I am drawing them way too much. I went back to hit the KBS Tour V's today and I cannot draw them nearly as much. Much better for me as I was drawing the PX LZ's too much at times.

I was thinking of buying a set of pulls but the guy who does a lot of work for me said I should just swap out the shafts in my 2014 Apex Pro's. He said when buying pulls that even though the shafts could be in good shape, they may not feel th name as the shafts I know I like.. Those feel perfect for me so he suggested keeping them as I know I like them.

The tour V's typically take 100 more strikes before the tips bend.

Just found some bends in the Tour Vs in my 18 and 21 Apex UTs and I reckon I've only hit them 30-40 times each - does this mean I would bend the regular Tours before even taking the wrapper off the club head?

2 sets of C-Taper 130X bent across the majority of the set in under 9 months use each and now these - glad I've moved over to Nippons in the irons.

Haha yes! The regular tours would have bent on your first family room waggle as you said aloud "I'm gonna KILL these things!"

Do the Tour V's have a soft, firm, or stiff tip?? I've seen and heard all of the above. In my testing I like the shaft, but now I'm curious.

Tour V's have a soft tip. The Tour V wedges are incredible for soft pitches around the greens. I find that the trajectory is a lot higher then my AMT S300's I was playing and I'm 1/2 to a full club longer in my irons. The S300's fit my eye better with the trajectory but the Tour V's feel really good when you flush one. I also had to weaken my grip with the Tour V's to get a straighter shot compared to the S300's due to the active tip really kicking through impact.

Thanks for the info. The soft tip explains some of the misses I've had in testing.
