Tampa area April

Recommended Posts

Hi Guys,

Just in the middle of planning a 9 day golf trip to the Tampa area at the and of April. We'll be staying at Wesley Chapel but are happy to drive around and we're currently thinking of the following venues

World Woods (both courses)

Streamsong (both courses)

Innisbrook (which ever courses we can get on)

Lake Jovita

Southern Hills

Mission Hills El Campeon (bit of a drive but seems highly regarded on here)

TPC tampa

Personally I'm happy to try and play 36 holes on most days but not sure all my partners will be! Any suggestions you guys have would be greatly appreciated, particularly with regards to getting on at Innisbrook as non resort guests and how much we should expect to pay?

Thanks!

I think your list is awesome, I would only add Fox Hollow if you needed another course.

I'm a Member at WW & at Southern Hills. I think Southern Hills is one of the top courses in Florida. I wouldn't rank it ahead of Streamsong Red, but I think it's a better course than Streamsong Blue.

El Campeon is a neat golf course.

Most people like the Island course better than Copperhead, at Innisbrook. I do.

TPC Tampa is only an average golf course, but usually well conditioned.

Both of Lake Jovita's courses are pretty decent.

As far as I'm concerned, you picked all the right ones. Just don't be tempted to play Saddlebrook in Wesley Chapel, you'll regret it.

Thanks a lot guys.

How does one go about getting on at Innisbrook as a non resort guest? Can you book in advance or just ring on the day and see what they have available?

It's a pain ... you essentially have to call and the rate they give you, is the same as you'd get with a "play & stay" package. In other words, they're going to charge you the same total rate, whether you stay there or not (at least that's how it was the last time I had to pay there, a couple of years ago).

It's probably going to be as expensive as Streamsong and it's not worth it, in my opinion.

PM me with information of date, time and how many players and I'll see what my golf pro can do for you.

I've never stayed there. But of course I've only played summer rounds at copperhead so I guess that's why it's more relaxed.

I played Copperhead back in October. This resort like many now has a "DayCation" rate. Basically you are guest for a day, though you do not have to stay at the resort. The rate at that time was $250 plus to play a round at Copperhead. I drove over in the morning, had a noon tee time, and drove home in the evening. I live about 90 minutes away. So just ask for the Pro Shop, NOT reservations.

Thanks for the great advice guys. Do you think Eaglebrook is a better course than TPC Tampa?

I think so. I actually like TPC Tampa for a TPC design, but I think Eaglebrook is superior (and costs less). The front 9 at Eaglebrooke is solid, but the back nine is tremendous.

I live in Citrus County which is less than 90 minutes drive away... and asked about the same thing last year. And there were not any discounts for locals. However, if you are looking to get on for less than full price you can monitor charity events at the courses.... a few weeks back there was an event with an entry fee of about $100 to play Copperhead! Since none of my golfing buddies were available we did not take advantage of it.

I think you should start getting paid by Eaglebrooke for every time you say Eaglebrooke.

If you are going to play Mission Hills El Campeon, you may want to check out Deer Island Country Club which is in the same area. A couple of years ago, I played those two on the same day.

I've heard good things about Saddlebrook Resort recently. I know they have been trying to revamp their courses.

I know they re-did the greens on the Saddlebrook course recently. I enjoyed it when I played in November its not very long though. I remember really liking #9 and #10. I cant speak to the quality of the Palmer course though. The facility itself is a bit of a pain to get to, especially the driving range and the staff wasn't the friendliest I've experienced but I'd go back. I had a day pass from paradise golf but I dont know how much it costs to play regular.
